Worst Leasing Market We've Seen?

“but so do tech/content creep”

Definitely this. Just check how much it cost to replace a front bumper or headlight.

When do used EV prices start to climb?

When the gas prices started to climb. I was checking iX & XC40 recharge, the listed price is at least $3-5k+ higher now.

My 2025 IX is still way under water but at 675/mo plus tax I feel like I could transfer it with a DAS of a few K

To answer OPs question: this is definitely the worst leasing market for me. Everyone says it’s a skill issue but I’m not buying that anymore.

Lets be real. As long as legacy auto continues down the EV transition, ICE customers will be subsidizing that transition.

ICE is where the high margins are at. Hybrids to some degree as well. These brands are subsidizing EV losses on their P&L each quarter. The majority of msrp increases are because of that. Brands are now funding these multi billion write-downs. GM latest with $10.9 billion EV related write-down.

Outside of China, Tesla is still the only EV-only manufacturer posting profits each quarter. EV production is still currently a multi-billion loss leader.

Ford is actually showing just how much legacy auto brands are losing. As they post separate P&L for ICE and EV divisions. It has been roughly 4 years since Ford separated out their EV division, cumulative losses have now exceeded $16 billion.

It’s not a bad market at all. When you can get trucks and sedans for $300/mo if you want something frugal. Then there still plenty of high end deals are a grand a month, 7 series, s classes, Porsche cpos. And there’s plenty to get inbetween. Just have to be flexible and lease what’s best at the time you need a car. The only time there wasn’t deals in the last 9-10 years (how long I’ve been leasing for) was during Covid.

If you have a few bucks to spare, have solar and L2, and have a Plan B (plug-in hybrid, etc.) there is no reason to go back to gas other than for pulling large trailers long distances.

EVs aren’t going anywhere, will be back whether the large car companies like it or not, and they are the future. At this point that’s only been delayed.

Love my mini SE for my commute & local errands. All the fun of mini without the headache of its ICE reliability issue. Heck, the only thing I do is change brake fluid, air filter & tire rotation.

Don’t rub it in, did you lease/buy or buy it pre-owned. I feel like the Mini SE is slept on big time, they’re just hard to find at good prices with low mileage. Was looking at them at the beginning of the year and now prices have gone up due to gas etc.

Agree completely that EVs aren’t going anywhere. I think a big problem is that legacy auto needs to completely rethink how they build cars. Somehow Tesla can make money selling EVs, but the Big 3 (2 really) lose money on each EV they sell. It’s also just a weird time with BMW switching over to their new platform, Audi pausing for a year to sort of software bugs and Ford and GM slowing production. I think in a few years we’ll see a lot more EVs on the market again, but without subsidies.

Buy it used while it was still qualified for federal used ev rebate & state rebate

From your other thread, it didn’t seem like you were making offers so that’s probably the issue.

Are you saying it’s in fact a skill issue?

Let’s just say they’re using the wrong tactics.
