Worst leases you've seen

It was pretty bad.

It was in the fall of '99, so already well into model 2000s, which means I should have have got a bigly yuuge discount on a '99. And the internet was around then, very much around. I don’t think Edmunds was, but I should have been smart enough to search “how to lease a car” on AltaVista

The reason I went down the path to an Accord was I test drove a Prelude at the dealership earlier. Then a few days later came back to buy it, but it was already gone. So the sales rep was like, hey how about an Accord Coupe? It had a 5 Spd, pretty peppy for that time, after the test drive I said yeah let’s do it. I broke pretty much all the rules of car shopping, LOL.

Of course it was, but we have like 1,000 more sources of info then than.

After getting a few really good deals recently, I went back to 2005 and looked at the leases I’ve had over the past 12 years. My 2015 Sienna came in at 1.49% (way above the 1% rule). Looking at my negotiation papers, I noticed they charged me $607 for GAP insurance which should have been No Charge through Toyota Financial.

Toyota does charge for Gap, it is not included in there leases.

But $600 over 3 years? That’s highway robbery. Most insurance plans offer it for a fraction of that amount. And without paying interest on it.

No…$607 over 2 years. it was a 24/10 lease.

Ouch.

Here’s a pretty awful GM “lease offer”

MSRP $36,990.
Term: 39 mos / 10k
Due at Signing:
6,410 (Current GM Owners)
4,910 (Non GM Owners)

Effective lease payment:
533.36 (Current GM Owners)
494.90 (Non GM Owners)

plus TTL of course!

National base MB E300 Offer is quite rancid.

$52,150 MSRP
36 months
10K miles
$569/mo
$3499 CCR
Drive off: $4863 which includes CCR and Aq. Fee and 1st month.

Effective payment of $688 before tax for $52K MSRP.

I know it’s not quite apples to apples, but my truck which was $49K MSRP was leased for $287/mo for the same 36/10 term.

Genesis g80 sport
56,250 msrp
36 months
10k miles
630/month w/tax
2k out the door
my car… i’m ashamed of the price paid but will not regret it

Don’t sweat it. You’re paying what the average person pays for a 528/E300 but for a much sportier car.
