Why do dealer websites suck?

As the title says, why do dealer websites have to have “call us” boxes on every side of the screen. It really slows down the site. Maybe have 1 box but there is really no need to have a numerous and then pop-up boxes. Just saying.

A lot of those features are paid add ons… carnow or carcode etc. but yes they are annoying even for myself.

We are working on new site and they sent me a bunch of examples today and i was thinking the same thing.

I agree with this. What annoys me even more is how difficult most sites make it to filter inventory. Many don’t even let me sort by color or trim and I wish more showed the vehicle sticker. It’s weird to me that whoever made it like this hasn’t figured out that it makes it infinitely more difficult to shop for a car…

I’ve found that CDJR is way ahead of the competition when it comes to filtering inventory and providing stickers. I can even locate the exact unit I want within 250 miles of any zip code from the parent CDJR site, then get the sticker and redirected to the exact page on the dealer site. That’s how I found my hard to get GC Upland in Maryland (from NJ) with the exact spec I wanted.

So far, Toyota dealer sites in my area have been the worst. Cannot in any way sort or filter. Only distinguishable factor among units is MSRP.

To me it’s just another indication of how the car business is stuck in the 20th century

Because they all use one of the major DMS dealer management systems. Most use CDK or dealer track and they supply the web sites.

Haha this is exactly the email I sent yesterday. I told them I wanted a link to the window sticker like ford has on their sites

Minor irritation on the website is an omen of things yet to come.

  • Just wait - After it’s all through you’ll think the website was nuthin’

What. You don’t like the “Click hear to speak to Elizabeth, with a pretty face”, scrolling all over your screen? I’m pretty sure they’ll all the same platform, just templated slightly differently.

Elizabeth with the pretty face is a bot.

dealer site main objective: is to get your info so that they can get you in the dealership in person to sell you a car. No surprise that call us boxes are on every page because that’s the point of the site.

My buddy sold his desking site to Truecar for $27 million last year. So, there’s money in this stuff

I feel like it’s been a top to bottom mess for a while now?

Manufacturer websites suck, dealer websites are even worse and there always seems to be complaints about back end systems? The Toyota Financial website essentially looks exactly the same as it did in 2006 when I leased a Toyota Aygo.

Given how much internet traffic really matters now, it’s kinda surprising that so many businesses are just doing what’s ‘good enough’ Say what you will about Tesla but their website makes things (mostly) easy to figure out!

It’s a feature, not a bug. For 99% of the buying public the website exists solely to gather your contact information and convince you to come on down for “A great deal… But you gotta get here today! Your presence is your leverage!”
