I don’t even know which State is worse. MD’s car tax rate is about 2% higher but all Northern Virginia localities charge an annual car tax that ends up being between 3-5% of NADA value. MD’s tax rate completely knocks out the ability to do a 2 year lease while VA is almost as bad upfront. But these taxes are irrelevant unless you plan to buy a car and keep it for 5+ years since you pay them on purchases too.
I see all kinds of crazy deals in Texas and Florida on here. And a lot people say in Texas they are getting their taxes waived. To be honest though, I don’t believe half the shit I read on here about the supposed deals people are getting. So at the end of the day if you get a deal you’re happy with, go for it.
People have posted lease contracts and numbers that add up. Why lie to a bunch of internet strangers?
The purpose of the forum is to share how and when deals are crafted and encourage people to branch out. There are deals posted that are unicorns, it is your task to go chase one down if you really want one.
because it’s the internet, and that’s what people seem to do. I know there’s a lot of legit stuff on here, but I knows there’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t add up either.
There’s been a total of one user who has been questioned about lying. That is it. Thousands of legit deals.
Texas sucks for deals… few unicorn deals here and there…
What crazy deals have you seen in FL? I think, for the most part, people struggle to get good deals in FL.
I have to agree… not only they charge full tax amount on lease, many benze dealers I have contacted mark up MF so high… 2X-3X buying rate
Pacific Northwest
The region consistently includes the states of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho—and usually Montana and Wyoming. It can vary sometimes what folks consider PNW, but hope you got idea.
I’m in Dallas, TX and never considered leasing but after coming across this website - I can see why leasing is better than purchasing (thanks to depreciation; leasing a car comes ahead). Plus, I like idea of driving new car every 2-3 years.
Any guidance, if we can lease car in other states (where tax is not charged on full price like TX) and bring it to TX. I’m aware it’ll involve either burning miles to drive here OR shipping it.
Some dealerships have an offer for Tax Credit.you don’t pay tax then. Porsche, Sewell Lexus a Audi offered them in March. All mentioned dealerships are from Dallas.
I’m noob - when you mention Tax Credit; what it means?
TX is a full tax state, where you pay tax on the sales price of the car, even on a lease. This makes leasing very expensive compared to markets where you only pay taxes on the monthly. Some TX dealers offer tax credits to offset this tax either completely or greatly reduce the burden.
Example, lease a vehicle for 50k selling price, owe 3k in taxes either paid upfront or spread across the lease. On a 24 month lease, this adds $125/math to the cost. Compare that to a monthly tax state where you hacked an amazing deal on that 65k car for 50k selling price and with high residual so your base monthly payment is 400. Your tax on the lease would only be $24. (400 x 0.06) which would save you $100/mnth.
