Which Vehicle Lease for 3 car seats?

Yep, I’d be fine with either of the top 2 trims.

A factory order definitely crossed my mind, but I live in Los Angeles, so there’s no shortage of dealerships for me to query in November when my Q7 lease is up.

Plus, I’d be more than happy to extend my Q7 lease for 6 months if necessary.

SXP is tough to find on the lot. They are either coming in as customer orders with deposits on them (effectively presold) or sold off the lot with a big markup.

You can test the market by calling someone today and seeing if they’ll sell you an in-stock SXP at sticker, ie no markups, adjustments or BS add-ons/accessories.

FYI Lease extensions are a courtesy from the lessor that may or may not exist when you need them.

There’s an SXP with minimal add-ons at a local dealer advertised at 20% over msrp.

Mind blowing.

It’s a seller’s market for sure. Wouldn’t be surprised if the right ass finds that seat too. Maybe not at the full 20% over sticker, but they’ll pay over.

TBH you have almost nothing to lose by finding a dealer willing to accept true sticker and placing a factory order since CA almost mandates that every deposit be refundable?

Wouldn’t be immoral/unethical either because the dealer would be happy to sell it to someone seeking instant gratification for a large markup if you declined to take delivery.

Check out thecarseatlady.com. It is really helpful when it comes to figuring out 3 across. There are some very narrow carseats (chicco fit2, clek foonf, graco slimfi3 lx, etc) and boosters (Maxi Cosi rodifix, graco turbo, etc). You could easily fit 3 across in most larger sedans/smaller suvs which really opens up your list.
I would argue that your 7 year old is probably not ready to transition out of a booster any time soon. It could be okay “per law” but the reality is that most kids are safer in a booster until they can pass a 5-step test. Our laws here don’t adequately address carseat safety.

So after the great feedback in this thread and a bit more research with some more thinking through how we may actually use the vehicle I’ve come to a few realizations.
Since we already have an XC90, I’d prefer to NOT get another “large” SUV. Something <190" overall length (need the added garage space for the kids bikes). Also, no captain’s chairs and a third row for emergency use.
I think I’m down to the following (and will be checking them out shortly along with some car seats):

  • Model Y 3 Row - Unfortunately, they only offer the long range version now which ups the price considerably. Def not the value play, but with no tax in NJ, its a strong possibility.
  • MB GLB 250 4Matic 3 Row - Might lease a bit better than the Y, but finding the right combo of options may be tricky. May have to compare with GLB AMG 35
  • LR Discovery Sport 3 Row - Disco Sports with the family pack appear to be rare and the few dealers I’ve contacted have not been great so far.

I’ll let you know how things start to shake out!

I’m going to recommend the Sienna. That being said, we have a 2017 Pilot Touring (8 Passenger) and it will suit your needs. 3 Rows. The 2nd row bench is wide enough for 3 car seats across. Even though my kids are older now (14.5, 12, & 9), we have at least 1 in the 3rd row. Separation helps keep the peace. Good luck with your search.
