What to buy for $200k

$200k would be a respectable down payment for a Touring.

haa. Well, never mind that idea then…

What car are we talking about? A GT3 with Touring?

Yes, GT3 Touring. That is more in the $250k-$350k ballpark, though.

My 992.1 GT3 is a GT3 touring, paid 45k over. Not likely happening for 200k, but also there is ZERO difference between a touring and standard GT3 other than the wing. The car has the same exact everything…A standard GT3 991.2 can be had under 200k all day. A 992.1 can be had if it is 30k+ miles, sofas and no CCB. But this is a highly undesirable build.

991.2s can be had for around that price no?

Those are sub 100 grand cars

god wouldn’t it be nice if you could actually have 991.2 gt3 tourings at that price?

I now assume you meant 991.2’s and not 991.2 S

makes much more sense

my bad, i could’ve phrased it better

I could’ve not been so literal also ha

But you’re right.. a clean/low mileage 911.2 gt3 should be within that $200k mark. I think the more recent years (for that gen) are like 200-250k

I haven’t quite understood why 991.2 gt3 tourings are so hard to come by, but I suppose that’s a sign that these cars are so beloved, barely anyone wants to part with them.

I think there is a fair amount of people who actually prefer the 991.2 over the 992.1, so that could explain part of it.

Personally the NA Porsche (for the cars) were/are the best sounding. My 992.1 had the PSE and it was still just ok IMO. Sounded decent when you were into the power. I prefer the 8 cylinder in the Cayenne multiple times over, even with the turbo’s ha.

@WeakestLink - I know it has only been a few days since your initial post, but are you any closer to making a decision?

Unfortunately not. This week has reminded me of why I dislike dealing with dealers (and why I appreciate the good relationship I have with my local dealer). I thought I had found a really nice R8 but it sold this afternoon. I then negotiated a decent deal on a different R8 but I just realized it doesn’t have the sport exhaust (which is a major selling point for me).

Then I went down the rabbit hole of taking the risk on a 296 GTB due to their massive depreciation, especially on higher optioned ones. Probably too risky for me but very tempting.

Found a clean NSX that is a good deal (both price and trade) but, after having several NSXs, not sure I want to go backwards.

Bottom line…still looking. Lots of great ideas from this thread.

Having leased two Audis ('18 A4 and '21 A6 with the 6 cylinder engine), one of my dream cars is the V10 R8.

@WeakestLink -

You have mentioned the word “depreciation” (or some variant of it) in this thread no fewer than 8 times, all while searching for the perfect car for $200k.

But you are buying a depreciating automobile @ $200k, not an original Warhol.

If you think you are getting into something for $200k that is going to check each and every “thrill” box and not lose at least some money up front then you are wasting your time with this thread in the first place.

I’ve also mentioned several times that I expect to incur depreciation. I just want to be judicious in choosing a car that won’t have heavy depreciation. I think it’s a reasonable factor to consider, especially since we’re on a LH site.

I would get an rs6 avant or an m5 touring, but I have the advantage of not caring about depreciation mostly because I don’t have 200k to drop on a car in the first place.
