What should I expect from a broker?

Being new to the concept of using a lease broker, I am wondering what I should expect with regard to frequency of interaction, updates on progress, suggestions to me for situations where what I want is challenging to find, but there might be a close alternative, etc. I would really appreciate understanding what I should expect. Thank you!

Each broker works a little different (personalities) and service different regions of the US for different brands. Brokers also have reviews that you can read.
Please understand, issues arising from the dealership is not the issue of broker. The brokers job is to get you the vehicle at the price mentioned (given your qualificaiton for rebates/incentives).

There are also dealers on this forum that don’t have a broker fee because your working directly with the dealership.

Depends on your expectations. If a broker didn’t select a dealer who could deliver a relatively painless experience then I wouldn’t have considered that broker to have provided any value IMO.

You’re better off asking the forum. After all, a seller has a conflict of interest here

I can get behind this logic. I should of clarified that unexpected things that occur from the dealership* Naturally, I would hope that brokers and dealers have a good relationship and understand the importance of a painless experience  lol.

I would definitely read up on the broker reviews for whatever make & model you are looking for. I would say that it is best for YOU to be prepared. Know what make/model/trim level as well as 2 or 3 color choices you want. Tell them how many miles per year you would like to lease for as well as how much you want to pay DAS (due at signing). Some people like to pay a flat amount, some like to pay 1st payment up front, some like to pay 1st payment, acq fee, & taxes up front… What other vehicles you own/lease in your household to see if you qualify for loyalty or conquest incentives. The more information you give the broker, the easier it is for them to get back to you with the car you want at the best possible price.

A lot of the brokers are extremely busy and run their business through text. They will get back to you within a reasonable amount of time.

I live in CT and have leased cars 4 cars through 2 different brokers since 2019. It saved me a lot of time and a lot of money. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy or lease through a broker again.

What brand and model are you looking for?

I’m an extension of the dealers I use so any issues should fall back on me ultimately. The only real issue I can’t handle is if someone buys a car not in stock and it’s late. That’s neither mine or the dealers fault however. Shipping is another I can’t control but only refer companies I trust but ultimately liability falls on them for any damage. But they’re all licensed and insured.

I appreciate and respect the mindset! Not a common mentality, but i do agree with what your saying.
Im just setting the bar low because as you mentioned, there are times where things dont fall on you and shouldnt fall on you

Thanks for this - I really appreciate your taking the time to make such a helpful reply. I was happy to know that I’ve checked all of the boxes with respect to your suggestions and I know I have to be patient. I’m sure brokers are pretty slammed right now. I just don’t have a sense of how long it can take to find a car, especially a tricky exterior/interior combination. But I did allow for alternatives. What’s a reasonable period to wait?

It’s the beginning of the week. Middle of the month. They’ll most likely respond within 24 hours. What kind of car are you looking for?

Orders figure 2-3 months. If on the lot you can usually get one same day from many brokers.

2025 BMW i4 eDrive40 Tanzanite blue/Canberra Beige interior, Driver Assistance Package, Premium Package, Parking Package, 19” all-season wheels/tires. I’m willing to flex if absolutely necessary: color (Black with Canberra or black or White with Black seats NO COGNAC). Model - if no eDrives in Tanzanite, then I would consider an xDrive.

Limited to no up-front payment, as much as possible. I have loyalty from car before my current car. I would be willing to travel to pick it up in the northeast.

There’s literally one car out there which has what you want. It’s not at a partner dealership but I have one dealership which has a good relationship with them.

Feel free to shoot me a text, we can figure this out, but there are no Tanzanite eDrive cars available anywhere in the Eastern US, as a heads up.

516-416-5481.

In CT the OP would be better off in an Xdrive anyway

Oh I totally agree, but I would have to assume there is a reason they’re specifically asking for RWD.

Personally, I’d want it for the range.

My Tanzanite Blue II eDrive has black seats, but with all the Raspberry Costco smoothie my kids have spilled on it, it’s kind of Cognac colored now.
