You’re not wrong, yeah crew cab 5.5 ft beds are not really made for serious hauling tbh, even towing large loads can become tricky.
It would definitely be worth looking into if you have the space and it would cut down on multiple trips.
But to add I have hauled a literal ton of tiles about 50 miles with max payload of 1750 with no issues also did gravel, mulch, bags of concrete (3800 lbs long story but less than a mile) but most of these are just one-offs.
