What happens if I don't return my lease on time?

Leaf’s actually highly underrated, but yeah it was more about continuing that $37 monthly lease payment as long as possible.

I work in insurance and my mind of course always goes down that path. On a lease, you have insurable interest in the vehicle as a result of your lease contract. Should you just keep the vehicle and therefore continue to operate it without its owner’s permission (it’s kind of like you’re driving a stolen vehicle at that point), there’s a very real possibility your insurer would deny a claim should a loss occur. It’s not worth the risk IMO.

Gotta love reverse psychology, when you say bad idea, don’t do it, they will try to justify. When you say do it and report back, they shut down real quick.

OP here. I wasn’t asking if it was a good or bad idea. I was asking if there were things that I hadn’t thought of, two good things pointed out were credit issues and the insurance concern. Ultimately I doubt there would be an issue, but my need for the car isn’t worth the risk, I can just go without a car for a few weeks. If the car was a need and not simply a convenience I likely would have made a different decision.

If that was the case, this thread would’ve died 3 posts in; you had a couple trusted members telling you it was a bad idea and why.

There’s a joke here about a credit score of 600 being an improvement for the average Nissan owner/lessee…

A 30 day delinquency is a close call - think of it as if you missed your credit card payment. You’ll get hit with a late fee right away, but it won’t show up on your report for at least 30 days. For the lease, you will get calls from the bank after a missed return, and you might be flagged for future transactions with the same lessor, though I think it’s unlikely anything truly catastrophic (repo, adverse credit reporting, etc.) will happen before 30 days. However, as someone with a better-than-average-Nissan-owner credit score, I would absolutely never run the risk and simply return the car when required.
