I’ve never owned or leased a car before and am looking to lease within the next few months. What models should I be focusing my search on if my main goal is to keep payments under $200 per month?

@ChuckNoblet, right now you can find a lot of Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, Chevy for under $200/mo w/ zero down, assuming you’d be OK w/ a 2017 leftover. Depending on how many months out you’re talking, you might only be left w/ 2018s and likely harder to meet your month;y payment.
You need to provide a bit more info on your location, timeframe, how many miles/yr do you need and over what term 24/36 and what you are looking for, car, 2dr coupe, 4dr sedan, SUV etc.
Also, read up as much as you can on recent deals other members have attained. It takes time, but that is the key to getting yourself a great deal. If you feel it’s more than you can handle, there are many good broker in the Marketplace that can help for a small fee.

What’s your tax rate? IIRC it’s pretty high in Chicago. That will take a big bite out of your budget.
Last month I did not have much(any) luck finding sub-$200 leases on sedan in Chicagoland. Finally leased a Civic a week ago. The Chicago market seems to be completely different than the SoCal market which most of these crazy good deals seem to be.
How many miles per year do you need?
Does Chicago have any development zones where they charge half the normal tax rate? Just wondering if you could buy / lease a car from a dealership within that zone?
But even if that was the case, don’t they usually adjust up the tax to wherever you reside? Or do they do that differently in Chicago?
No, development zones are typically to entice business to open in a neighborhood that is bad or depressed, and buyers to go there and make their purchases. Over a period of time, it allows an area to re-gentrify.
Where did you end up leasing from? If you don’t mind me asking what is your payment?
