I mean you’re also driving a dodge hornet so who really won here? No one
I actually really like my son’s Alfa Tonale - same car. Phev is great as well. I think I won at 28/mo.
I hit on one of those Nissan Altima one pay deals from 3 years ago , and let me tell you that car was barely fine at best.
For context (and most S&G’s), what are you guys driving now and at what cost? lol
m lite and 992 911. Ya they obviously cost much more than these cars. I think they’re also dramatically better products. Gotta pay to play, just depends if you’re a car guy or a deal guy, and those are 2 fairly diff things imo.
idk sometimes I think this site is like extreme couponing, people clip coupons on stuff they don’t even need, like the deal itself is the score not the actual product. People here lease cars they don’t need or even really use for the purpose of the deal itself.
I’m in a 2024 T8 S60 I pay 460?
Probably true in today’s market, but 10 years ago, we had some slapping deals on sick cars. The hellcat craze, E class mercedes for sub 300, got paid to drive a fiat 500e. You’re forgetting some of the best benefits of leasing which are (1) always under warranty (2) low maintenance costs (3) latest tech (4) protect against depreciation. You’re presenting a false dilemma. It’s more about timing than it is you’re either a car guy or a deal’s guy. Leasehackr was about waiting for the stars to align and jumping on it.
25s are done, so it’s a moot point. Might as well talk about 25 XC90 T8 lol
My other car is a BMW X3 m40i, which I’ve driven 1,400 miles in the 18 months I’ve had the Hornet. I opted for the non sport version with leather seats and 18” wheels. It is insanely comfortable and quite entertaining in electric only mode. Gets about 38 miles of range. Has saved me so much money. It’s an awesome car. I will miss it when it’s gone.
The R/T is actually a blast to drive. Had one on a road trip and loved it. Would I purchase it for $45k-55k or whatever, no way. Would I lease it cheaply knowing I wouldn’t have to worry about the horrible reliability and poor resale? Absolutely!
This 100%. I consider myself a “car guy”, but that just means I have to work harder to find those deals on fun cars. Maybe not the cheapest unicorns, but it’s allowed us to drive some fun stuff “relatively” cheaply. Over the years: BMW 440i, GLA35 AMG (most recent), Audi RS etron GT, etc.
I’m also after deals: Nissan Frontier ($199), Chevy Bolt ($150), Honda Prologue ($236), Jeep 4XE, etc.
Sometimes you just want a cheap car as transportation, to save on fuel, or to haul stuff, other times you’re willing to pay a bit more to have some fun.
IMO they were all still deals based on the MSRP and selling price of the vehicles and almost none of them made sense to purchase instead of lease.
Deals on the Mercedes GLA are strong.
The Hornet is unfairly maligned because of its badge. The product itself is quite good.
Thank you for all the answers. Didn’t expect over 30 answers after such a short time! Few comments to some of the answers:
- I am in a luxury situation that I still have time till end of November to return my Volvo. Since the payment is not that high and I am almost about to max out my mileage, I don’t have a problem to return the car 2 or 3 months earlier and eat up the 2 remaining payments. This give me enough time to get the right car for the right deal.
- Genesis (G70 and GV80) are on top of my list (thank you for the tip!). I really like the look and like the fact that they have some good deals going with both. I just have to go and test drive to see if I like the seats. For me the seats are the most important part of the car. That is the reason I love the Volvo XC90 which has one of the best seats in the industry.
- The car I love the most (which has also fantastic seats) is the Mercedes E350 but there are currently no real deals. I am willing to go with a loaner/demo if they give me a good deal but even those are pretty rare. I am hoping in September they will have some better deals on those.
- I like the idea with QX60 and pathfinder. I owned few infinitis before and loved the seats as well. Will look into those too.
- Regarding the general comments around leasing: I am a car guy and a deal guy. In my eyes you can be both in the same time. I have leased and bought some great cars in my life time and have had some fantastic deals. The list of the great deals is long but I also did some nasty mistakes. The worse car deal I had was that during the pandemic I bought a volvo XC60 ($2k below MSRP, which actually during that time was not that bad). I paid total for that car out of the door including finance cost $57k and after 2 years I sold it for $32k. Do your math!! Anyway, you see, we all do mistakes and learn from those.
- I hope to hear more as the new deals come in
- Thank you all!!
I’m really struggling to see your point, or maybe you’re just playing dumb…
A lot of people here see no problem in driving a cheap lease to work (and cheap doesn’t mean a bad car, necessarily) if that will save them money to spend on something they actually value… extra money for a weekend sports car, paying off your mortgage early, saving for retirement? The list goes on.
I appreciate the gist of what you’re saying. There is certainly a divide between those true car enthusiasts (myself) and those who are simply looking to get from point A to point B. In terms of the deal, I think there is almost always some sort of money contingency. A person is only willing to pay X amount for a car or a person is only ABLE to pay X amount for a car (car poor - spending every penny they can on their vehicle). I feel the majority of people fit into one of those two categories.
Why not get a Turbo S over a base/S model if the “deal” does not matter? Why not get a 992.2 over the 992.1? If you got a good deal on your 911, best case, one month’s payment covers about the entire lease of the Hornet. I mean hell for <$100/mo can we really use much of a scale to review any car. Cayenne Turbo Coupe is one of my dailies, I have no shame in having a Hornet. Other than it being a Dodge Hornet, there is nothing terrible with the car lmao. Payment is under $50 - I can barely get MYSELF a nice supper plate for that.
Coupon clipping - absolutely correct. Again sometimes, myself included, we are big game hunters… it can often be more about the sport than it is the actual trophy. ![]()
Which M Lite do you have? That is another example of rib jabbing lol. Sure they may not be true M cars, but many are still great cars.
You’re proof that people cat be both enthusiasts AND wanting to go from A to B in a cheap lease. Having extra money I’m by the end of the month is rarely a problem.
There are plenty of excellent cars that members get good, or great deals on versus the general marketplace. On the other hand, a “crazy deal” like what the OP is asking for usually equates to aging inventory or low demand types of cars that may come with tradeoffs. Some of those cars may be fun to drive, others may not.
I’m 50/50 on leases. Two were the car I wanted, the other two were deals. Both have merits.
Me as well. Great deal Camaro vert MT for me and cheapest option possible $28 Alfa for kid. It’s not one size fits all - ever.
I always liked Volvo but didn’t seriously consider it until I learned I could get an XC90 for $405/mo. Sometimes price impacts desire in a big way.
