Was This Finally “Peak Insanity” in Used Vehicle Prices? And all other crystal ball questions

The stupid money is in the Sequoia. Toyota has to be limiting production for this reason. They just want to target the suckers with this rig… yet they’re already discounting Tundras.

I agree, buying and leasing are different animals. If you are looking for bullet proof vehicle to own for a decade a Toyota is a fine choice. They have built up a lot of good will over the years by producing very reliable boring cars. That seventy year old woman doesn’t care about technology or 0-60 times.

I like (wife loves) my XC90 but no chance I would finance it. It’s a lease or nothing.

Yeah and Toyota knows this, so they’ll hit people with 10% APR on 6 year loans since they know people will pay it on high demand vehicles.

They look great imo they just dropped the ball on the storage space. They should have built it on tundras 6.5 bed crewmax platform. Then I would be driving one as well. Even though they’re priced high I’m sure they will lose less in depreciation than all the competitors, Toyota knows that and prices them accordingly.

They do look nice. But they dropped the ball with the third row seating space simply by slapping a roof on a tundra chassis.

Since I own a 22 Tundra, this rig looks way too damn similar inside and outside. They could’ve done more to differentiate but that doesn’t fit the “boring and practical” part of the brand.

They know how to turn a profit. Already had all the tundra parts just needed to change the roof really :joy:

I think these giant SUVs need to go to highly configurable seating. I would love to have a Sequoia, Yukon, or something similar, loaded with nicities while retaining 2nd row bench and preferably removing the 3rd row entirely or folding it somewhere completely out of the way. I would also like it to be configured in such a way that when it’s in 5 seater mode, shit doesn’t fall down between 2nd and 3rd row seats, and if I need a cargo cover for that to start from the 2nd row seats and not from 3rd. I don’t understand how car companies decided “stuff hauler” = truck, people hauler = suv. I want a giant SUV that’s basically a covered truck, with a truck seating positiion, but SUV space, so my family and my 2 dogs can fit comfortably. Is that so hard to do?

idk man - i can easily smoke the advertised toyota prices on this forum and organize home delivery on em, it’s just that nobody really wants them here. for the shekels that a toyota makes, i’d rather do anything else.

i am absolutely not disagreeing with you, don’t get me wrong here. i’m just pointing out that somehow, despite seemingly being behind the 8-ball on all things for the last 10 years, they just keep pumping out these mediocre, over-priced cars and selling them like hotcakes.

Brand loyalty from prior really good reliable cars

Perhaps the demographic of people who want a Toyota and people sophisticated enough to use this forum/online broker just don’t overlap. They have the 4th, 7th, 11th, 13th and 18th best selling cars in America so people clearly want them. It is strange these people aren’t finding you to get the cars for way less than they are paying.

Definitely mediocre but not overpriced. The Corrola lineup is significantly cheaper than Civic while Camry and Accord are priced similarly and generally in line with what other family sedans cost. The Rav-4 is similarly a little cheaper than the CRV.

Toyota trades excitement and tech for reliability. I personally am unlikely to ever own one but I can see why one who wanted to buy rather than lease would look at a Toyota.

Has anyone ever pulled spark plugs, sent in an oil sample, or compared aged Toyota powertrains to other manufacturers? Everything always comes back clean. Like new despite wear and tear. It’s quite surprising and very different than anything German or a lot of the newer direct injection-only BS from a host of other OEMs.

That’s why people pay. Quality story, residual values, and simplicity. Probably not a top priority for those that churn leases, however.

Totally agree with you. My ideal seating configuration is a 7 seater with a 3 passenger middle row, and 2 passenger 3rd row. Both of the seats in the 3rd row should be completely removable(not just fold flat), and at least the middle seat in the middle row should be removable(not just fold flat). That way I can have “captains chairs” level of comfort for everyone for the overwhelming majority of drives that are <= 4 people. And also tons of storage space. On the rare occasions when I have more than 4 people I need to drive then I can easily put the removable seats back in to take the capacity back up to 7.

I maybe weird, but all the screens and other tech got ouf of hand. I’ve been paying attention to what I do and don’t do in my car. I get in, throw my phone on the charging pad, start he car and go. I don’t think I’ve pressed any buttons in a while as climate control was set when I got the car and has remained on auto, lights are automatic, wipers are automatic, and enterntainment comes from the phone, so all the fancy shit in the built in infotainment is useless to me past the initial setup. So for me top importance is comfort, reliability (even on a lease as I don’t like getting stranded regardless of the payment plan on the vehicle , android auto, good ACC and lane centering (cough, honda/acura drunk driving assist).

Looking at all the modern luxury cars, it’s a TV on wheels.

I get prob 30 texts a day for Toyotas from leasehackrs. Sure a lot of tirekickers but I wouldn’t be here if people didn’t buy.

22 so far today and it’s not the after work rush yet. Most people don’t post here, but I assure you lots of people find it. Google cheap lease and this is what comes up.

Thanks, I didn’t know that. Looks pretty awesome. Wish they would make the 3rd row removable too, and also make it an EV. A man can dream

I HOPE you have a work phone…or a lot of :tumbler_glass::smile:
