Was This Finally “Peak Insanity” in Used Vehicle Prices? And all other crystal ball questions

It’s all about the water line.

To be safe, avoid cars that lived in Florida or Houston. It’s kinda how I roll. And also cars that lived anywhere in the Midwest. Or the east coast.

So really why I’m saying is only buy life long west coast or desert cars. And then you don’t have to worry about hurricane damage or salt/rust issues.

I leased a 2017 A4 for three years. I thought the quality was very good. Not as fancy as the A6, but still very nice.

Everyone is a god damn influencer these days.

I drove a Q5 and the EV suv 2 years ago, got recommend them by people here, they were god awful for their price.

and the sales person would not shut the fuck up about the dumbest little thing the car could do.

Don’t get me wrong, the interior of my 2018 A4 was pretty nice. However, it is quite disappointing that the Q5’s interior is very similar to the current A4.

I’m not one to suggest more governmental regulation, But that might not be a bad idea with these 100 year storms coming around multiple times per year and all. I’m sure the Israelis could develop the technology if they haven’t already. The serial number of each unit could be tied to the vin at the factory.

Storm naming and media sensationalism is certainly up. Not so sure about storm activity.

The amount of people living on the coast and in the direct path of storms is up. We cleared all the natural mangroves as well that are supposed to protect the mainland.

Northeast Tulare County.

You’re welcome.

I didn’t listed to the 2 people talking. Just interesting that they would build with no plan to put these out… model year is changing so not sure the plan. Ford stock is a gamble but very profitable dividend if it spikes again. I started a small position regardless

I owned a 2015 allRoad which is basically an A4. I thought the interior was great. Leather was really nice. I got a lot of compliments from friends that got rides from me.

Some peeps get too deep into the weds with this stuff. I get this is a forum for car people so it’s not the general public. But 97/100 people would not know the difference between the “good” Audi leather and the “bad” Audi leather.

The allRoad is an awesome winter wagon. Put some Michelin IceX on that bad boy and it’s unstoppable. It was my ski car while I owned it it.

318 days on Cargurus and price dropped by 17K. They had the guts to go from 75K to 82K one month after they listed. That move probably cost them 10K loss.

Take the loss now or take it Q1 ‘23.

We shall see.

Funny thing is…

I struggled through figuring out how to design a PCB and one of the “chips” I was using on the PCB was a Texas Instruments part. Automotive grade, apparently fairly common in vehicles. When I designed the board there were like 35,000 in stock.

A few days later when I went to order the components… 0 in stock, on backorder until February 2023. So I begrudgingly put in an order, and then found a similar component from TI (not automotive grade, slightly different specs, but drop in replacement) and ordered some of those to use in the meantime.

A week after I got the alternatives, the package containing the “backordered” chips showed up at my door. It’s like nobody actually knows how much stuff they have or when they’ll get more or what.

I honestly wonder how much of a nightmare all of these vehicles sitting in random fields/lots with missing components is panning out to be. Just the logistics behind having somebody come out and install the missing parts? Or do they just ship them to a dealer with a box and say “hey you gotta put on the lane keeping sensors before you sell it”??? lol

Finally found my QX60 online for sale

I sold it to this Land Rover AutoNation in Elmsford, NY back in March 2022 for $28k (essentially for residual and walked away). It need read door panel to be replaced plus over on miles.

I’m surprised by two things

  • Still sitting for sale at the exact same AutoNation dealership I sold it to (didn’t even try to send it to auction)
  • Price is still at $31k for Pure model…

I guess I definitely unloaded it at the right time.

Sold it for $34,338 in August.

From tax perspective I’m guessing it’s better to take it now to offset some of the profitable sales. I’m curious how many of these they have in their inventory and then how many dealerships are in a similar position. I didn’t see a franchise name on their website so maybe they are independent. Maybe Autonation is more disciplined with their inventory management, otherwise may be an opportunity to short their stock.

This is one of the reasons I didnt want to buy my S60 (as much as I love the car) for 34k from Volvo. These cars are going to be worth MUCH less in a few months as everyone scrambles to sell the metal sitting on their lots.
