I live in Washington State and I’m buying a new car from a Texas BMW dealership.
Just got the remote sign paperwork and a couple of questions came up on items I wasn’t prepared for.
Is that standard to sign a form that I am ‘taking delivery’ even though the car hasn’t even shipped to me? I’ve purchased and leased cars that were out of state, but don’t remember signing for delivery ahead of time. Could be my crappy memory though… lol
The purchase sheet had a line for ‘license’ at $140 and ‘Titling’ >$1300. Does that sound right? In WA, if you are near Seattle, you can get stuck with RTA fees and it can be close to $1k(on a $70k vehicle). In TX are dealers allowed to add other fees into the ‘Title’ line? Or are they just overestimating titling fees to be on the safe side?
They’re likely paying a runner service who will do the registration on their behalf. So while RTA is $1k, the cost on the contract reflects RTA + Runner service fee.
Thank you for the reply! That totally makes sense.
They have a third party document company that is handling the signing.
And I didn’t see a separate line for that charge.
The last new BMW I purchased was from CA and they had the notary/signing fees as a separate line, which seems more transparent to me.
