For my son’s 2023 Bolt, the service is active and provides vehicle status, vehicle location etc. But you have to upgrade the plan to get emergency support. So the data transmission is occuring. OnStar is actively choosing to i) ignore the emergency signal or ii) program their system to not send emergency signals unless a user is on a higher plan.

Again, i understand the financial dilemma. I just think it’s dicey territory. And I do think there is a way for them to offer various levels of emergency support at different price points. Lowest level, send automated msg to 911 and/or designated contacts. Higher level, live agent responds to driver in the car and stays connected while providing accurate situation assessment to 911.
