New guy here. I’ve spent a lot of time looking over gently used cars recently–two years old or less is my rule of thumb. There seem to be many more late models available if they are fleet-appropriate, due to rental car agencies turning them in at about 40k.
The peach of the bunch? Chrysler 200. I’ve never been a MOPAR fan, but after about 18 months, these seem to have deprecated to fully HALF their MSRP or further. I’ve rented 3 of these and they are solid, decent rides–not exhilarating at all (at least not the i4 version), but very nice to drive. Car & Driver and MT both wrote extensively about the 200 (the current generation) being grossly under appreciated. We’re talking $10-14k for a 2015/2016 with less than 40k miles. Original sticker more like $26k.
Similar story with previous gen Cruze LT (my significant other has a 2013, and it’s been perfect)–they don’t drop as quickly as the 200, but still a bargain. They also spec out as one of the larger and safer cars in their category.
If you get a 200, you can add $2,500 and get a Chrysler backed lifetime maxcare $100 deductible per visit warranty for ultimate piece of mind. It is as close to bumper to bumper coverage you can get.
Agree with Mari-Perry. It always makes sense to check specialized websites. I have been studying whatmycarworth before buying my Toyota and it helped a lot.
