So BMW has a 0.9% APR special on CPO i3’s. Being that I am picky about options, does it makes sense for me to buy a 2015 with 20k miles for ~$18k (fully loaded) about $375/mo for 48 mo., or would you still go for a lease? I would keep the car for 3-4 years and use it primarily as a commuter car, since I intend to keep my other car for long trips and camping. I’d imagine at the end of the 48 months in 2022 the i3 would be worth /something/?
I would like the car to have HK sound, & the Driver Assist and Tech Packages, all the lease specials I find are on basic builds of the car. I found a fully decked used i3 and am debating what to do.
My commute is 14 miles each way but takes about an hour each way.
Interesting idea. How long will the vehicle be out of warranty during the 4 years? Doesnt CPO get you only an extra year? If you find a 2015 which was put in service in 2016, you might get 3 years of warranty in total out of it.
It says the delivery date was the 15th of January, 2016. The batteries have 8 years/150k, the CPO warranty is 5 years, unlimited miles. So, that means 2 years of no warranty during the loan period. I read the car is very reliable though for the battery version.
I just returned my 2015 i3 BEV(30month lease) and I did notice fairly significant reduction in the range.
Was barely getting 70miles for a full charge.
Since your commute is less than 30 round trip so won’t be an issue but the range anxiety will hit quickly if you run errands after work etc.
if you are in states that offers rebate(ie: California) new lease still makes sense imho.
I was also in your shoes but I ended up leasing a 2018 i3BEV (my wife has 2017 i3 BEV)
With HOV lane sticker, 2.5k rebate, BMWCCA rebate, 2year free EVgo charging, it just make sense to roll the lease each time I think
If you only care about saving money and commuting, get a smart car with your commute. It’s not fancy, but it is way cheaper to run than a bev i3 and in traffic it will get more than 60 miles. It only takes 2.2 hours to charge

I will be in the same situation next year and I was thinking exactly the same thing although my commute is 100 miles round trip. I currently have a 2017 i3 rex on lease ( and an old x5 at home). I can make the round-trip without needing to charge or hitting the rex . So i will probably look at an 2016+ BEV or 2015+ Volt. Btw, anyone knows whether CA HOV stickers are still transferable ? The language of the new rules is a bit vague and made me think they are only valid for original owners. If so, that is a deal-breaker for me
