Trading up CX-5 for CX-9?

Hello…

I leased a 2016.5 CX-5 GT last October for 3 years, 12k per year. At the time it was intended to replace our 2009 CX-9 GT.

That turned out to be a bit of a mistake… I got the wrong car. We love the car but it’s too small for us. We could really use the CX-9 (or another 3 row SUV/crossover) instead.

It hasn’t even been a year yet so I know it’s way too early… but what are the odds I can go back and trade up for the CX-9?

Any other options at this point?

Thanks.

You can always trade up, it just depends if it’s worth it or not. Find out the CX-5’s current value vs your buyout value. Most likely, you’ll have negative equity though.

Yeah I guess not then. Too much negative equity still.

Thanks for the reality check.

How does your monthly payment compare to listings on swapalease?

Hard to tell. Most of the listings there seem to be for buys. The rest are for new leases and not transfers.

I’m paying $358 for mine with all the options other than AWD. This October it’ll have 2 years left. We’re not putting too many miles on it, it only has around 7500 right now.

My plan had been to get a nice car the wife could drive and would be the primary family car and then I’d find me one of those $100 or so leases. Now I guess I’ll have to try and find a nice $400 to $500 (or less if I can help it) 3 row and keep the CX-5 for myself. Spend a bit more total but live and learn I guess. Poor me… having to ‘settle’ for a CX-5
