Quick question for any experts…I’m trading in my Charger Daytona 392 this weekend towards a purchase of a pre-owned Jeep Rubicon. Will I retain the license plate off my leased vehicle or get a temp tag from the dealer? Is it an option which way I go and what is the cheapest option?
Current tag is not vanity so doesn’t matter I suppose…just curious. Ending lease 14 mos early!
Seems like a good question for the finance manager but it depends on if in FL the plates belong to the car or owner.
In FL tag belongs to the owner not to the car. Unless there is a different law with the leases you will keep your old tag and put it on the Rubicon. It’s called transfer tag. This way you don’t pay the initial motor vehicle registration fee.
Have family in Florida that lease.
Can confirm that you just transfer the plate to the new vehicle before leaving the dealership.
Yup, and I confirmed a few weeks ago with the Florida DMV before transferring my parents’ tag - about $400 for a new registration and $200-$250 to transfer.
