The body of that “article” hasn’t changed since that page was published (only the charts/numbers are being updated, and the sidebar), which I believe was late last year or the beginning of this year. I think the paragraph you quoted was definitely more applicable then, but not as applicable now.
This has been the biggest change in the US vehicle market, and has been a trend in the sedan market for quite some time now. People are moving to crossovers, not to the model 3. I’ve seen quite a number of model 3s around where I live in SoCal, but you will see many more X3 / X5 / Q5 / Q7 / GLE / GLC type vehicles on the road instead.
Precisely.
Sedans are dying for the higher seated SUV/SAV/Crossover variants.
I for one would love to see Tesla succeed. I just feel like there are too many promises of having something in the near future.
The near future could be 20 years from now!
Not just US market, but one of another biggest luxury car market in the world, China. The Rolls Royals SUV, BMW X7, … those large high end SUVs are targeted for that market
All the cars built are made for someone who has a paid order. Tesla said a few weeks ago they have more than 400K paid orders worldwide.
The fanbois are lined up, they’re all sold!(base model folks might have to wait, uh…forever)
Tesla also said they’d have a production rate of 20k/month in 2017, along with a bunch of other promises they didn’t deliver on time either. I’ll believe it when I see it.
No they didn’t.
, along with a bunch of other promises they didn’t deliver on time either.
There is a difference between unrealistic goals and promises. Prior to Model 3 Tesla was consistently late on their goals by two years. They did much better than that.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
I’m seeing a lot. What are you seeing?
400k paid order?? or 400K paid deposite, which most maybe waiting for that 35K car. A paid deposite may or may not lead to a sale.
And just for data sake, Honda Accord, one model, sells about 300K a year. How long does it Tesla to actually sell 400k model 3? If Tesla take 3 years to deliver 400K, it isn’t any better than BMW 3 series.
According to cleantechnica article posted earlier, estimated July Model 3 sales is four times BMW 3 estimates and the difference is growing each month.
I can be a billionaire, and I promise I will be a billionaire eventually (maybe in 50 years, but I definitely won’t say this part), but before that, I need a $10M load from you. Once I reach my billionaire goal, I will return your money + interest. Are you in or not?
If I were to take this to my boss, I don’t think I will still have my job.
A Tesla fanboi who just sees roses.
From Jesus…oops…Elon’s mouth…

“Can”, “will” and “promise” are much different. “Looks like”, is NOT definitely will make that production goal and we promise it to you. If you follow Tesla history , they never meet the date for their big goals, always comes sometime later, but they do eventually meet them.
Yeah, 20k/month turned into less than 1k. That, right there, is my problem with Musk. Lofty goals that are never hit. People paid 3k for full autonomy and are still waiting. He’s all about the hype to boost his stock, and disappoints each and every time. Remember when this car was promised to be the everyday man’s car at 35k, and with the tax break, 27.5? Now, that car isn’t available, and who knows if and when it will be. California is propping up their numbers big time with all the tech money out there. Take CA out of the equation, there is no Tesla.
Any other CEO that ran his mouth this much and missed every goal 2, 3, or more times would be out on the street.
In the meantime, I’ll be waiting for a car from a real manufacturer who builds style, comfort, performance and an actual dashboard/interior for a reasonable price tag, without having to recruit people from across the country from their service centers to build a car in a tent. I have no problem with my ICE, and I can wait a few years until that happens.
If this doesn’t smell of desperation on Musk’s part, IDK what does. NUMMI had no problems pushing out 5x the amount of cars in that plant that Musk says “sucks.”
Must be quite an experience for a guy who refused Tesla Model3 delivery over weekend and on top of that fanboys are all over him
Which is funny since the month of July isn’t even over yet? Unless they have some magic time machine that can also magically see sales numbers (Tesla discloses only quarterly numbers, not monthly numbers), I’m going to take those numbers with a grain of salt. While I have no doubts that the M3 will outsell the 3 series, it’s too soon to declare the chart as factual.
My bad, should have written estimated July sales. Original post corrected. Here is the corrected text for clarity:
According to cleantechnica article posted earlier, estimated July Model 3 sales is four times BMW 3 estimates and the difference is growing each month.
Elon runs his companies like start-ups. Acts of desperation and unusual tasks are the norm for start-ups, considering that most start-ups fail.
NUMMI had no problems pushing out 5x the amount of cars in that plant
The current plans for that plant are to exceed NUMMI production records. NUMMI max production was 430K in 2006. Elon says he wants to build 10K Model 3s per week plus 2K Model S and Xs. That is 12K per week dream. 12*52 = 624K per year.
According to bloomberg production estimates starting next week, the plant will be producing 6K Model 3s per week. Add 2K Model S and Xs that gets you 8K per week, when annualized equals 416K per year, which is right around NUMMI record production number. Also should consider that plant is still ramping up and there is plenty of hiring in case you want to work there.
