My Subaru lease is ending mid-month, and I’m thinking about what to do…car has less than 15K miles, and is in excellent, if dirty, condition.
We have two cars…my son will need a new car for college in January.
I can sell it and depending on offer, get a check for about 4K.
I can buy it, for about 24K+tax, and keep it…my wife likes the car. My son and I don’t! Looks like my car is selling in low 30s private.
I can extend the lease (never done before) for up to 6 months…that also involves a $400 CA registration, and driving without warranty.
I’ll have to get another car either was in next 6 weeks for my son (or we give him one of ours).
While extending the lease seems like the easiest (don’t need to make a decision), paying the same monthly payment for a 3 year old car without warranty seems silly.
I agree. Subarus hold their value so you don’t really lose anything. You can take your time deciding what to do. You can sell it in a month or two if you want.
I am not sure how much the buyout changes when you extend the lease though. If most of the $400 payment goes towards principal, than it might not matter whether you buy it or extend the lease.
You can beat the dispo and get a check? The only reason I’d wait is to juice at least 11/12ths of the current registration that was already paid. Shop around and find something you all like.
With so many cheap leases hard to drive a car out of warranty for some promise you’ll come out ahead in the long run by purchasing (sure if you like driving 8 year old cars). Probably just going to sit outside and get beat up at collage.
Doesn’t CA have some crazy rules about buying out a lease and flipping it within a short time period to avoid paying the taxes? I agree the best option is to just buy it out if you have as much equity as you think. A dealer is probably only going to give you $3-4K less than you see them retailing for.
I think I may pick up another Tesla 3…they’re leasing for about $440/month all in including drive offs…which seems better than any other deals right now (would ideally like to keep it under $400)…
My wife will keep the Subaru, and my old Tesla I’ll give to my son…he’ll be thrilled, as I would have been at 21!
Also drove an Q4 P+ demo today…fine car, but nothing more. My old 2016 Q5 was more fun to drive, and more comfortable.
I was a walk in at Audi…the price in the window said lease for $336. When we sat down for numbers, he came back with $1800 DO and $681 a month! LOL.
I get another $1000 off with Tesla through loyalty/student. After driving the new model today, I was blown away how much smoother and quieter it is than my 2022…no rattles or jarring shakes over bumps! And no haggling.
