Strategically waiting to submit CVRP

My 2016 gross income was marginally above the cutoff for the increased low income rebate ($4.5k).

My 2017 gross income will undoubtedly qualify for the increased low income rebate. Has anyone waited for a later tax season to submit? (Im a student wanting to lease a bolt now then submit in 2018)

Jessica from CVRP says: "There is no guarantee or promise on the continuation of the program in 2018, however we believe it is very likely to continue. "

In case anyone is following this. The CVRP rep said this: “You have 18 months to apply for the CVRP rebate from the purchase/lease date of your eligible vehicle. If you’d like to wait to file your 2017 tax return before applying for the rebate, you certainly may.”

…So you could potentially wait 2 tax seasons from now to file. But it’s not guaranteed to last forever. It’s just very likely that it will be around for the foreseeable future.
