Your payoff would have been the same if you sold it to any dealer. Meaning they can not negotiate the payoff. But yes you avoid sales tax which is the major benefit of these services like algo, vroom…
Algo came back today from $26,500 to $27,300. Might just do it. Has anyone had any luck getting better numbers from a dealership?
I had a really low mileage 2018 X1 and got quotes from Carvana and the others (Carvana was the highest–and without the back and forth negotiating of ALGo). The dealer I was leasing my new GLC from had come up with a pretty low figure for the X1, but when I showed them the Carvana quote in writing they matched it (and ended up retailing the X1 on their lot). And who knows, maybe I could have pushed them to go a little above Carvana’s quote. I was honestly a little surprised but pleasantly so, since being able to trade the X1 made the entire transaction so much more convenient. Not sure if you’re getting a new car or just selling your X1, but either way I’d definitely suggest checking with your local dealers too.
Thanks. We are moving out of state at the end of this month so I’m planning to share a car with my fiance for a couple months. Hopefully with 2021 models coming and the covid delays resolving, I can get a good deal around December. I’m probably going to checkout CarMax and a local dealership tomorrow. Did BMW give you a lower buyout price since it went to a dealer (subtracting tax)?
Sounds good. As far as the sales tax honestly I didn’t look into it. Got the payoff in writing from BMW Financial. Dealer paid off the car. Didn’t get into whether they ultimately paid BMW a few hundred less then the quote I got or not.
Car has been picked up!
Got $21,425 Net.
I did add around 400 miles since we signed the contract, driver just called ALGO HQ to confirm that its not an issue and handed me the check. process took less then 5 minutes! Overall *****
Update: I called algo and they gave me tracking number which showed the check was delivered to TFS on the 26th. Then I called TFS and they acknowledged receiving the check on the 26th but they are 15-20 days behind in processing so it’s still just a waiting game.
My car was picked on the 21st. I spoke with chase and they confirmed they haven’t received payoff yet. I’ll have to call and get a tracking number myself. Car is already listed for sale though on their site.
Had a somewhat disappointing experience with ALGo today. Contacted them about an older F-150 that I own outright. They had the highest offer by about $500. Did the Facetime walk through with them today and the guy said everything looks really great considering the age and he will call back with an updated offer soon. Then he calls back and says they aren’t buying that vehicle anymore because it isn’t doing well at the auction. Seems like they could figure that out before scheduling the viewing?
Oh jeez so far 2019 C300
Vroom: 36000
Carvana: 35000
Al go: 30000
So weird
Had a similar experience. I have an X1 2019. Low miles. The online bid they gave me was $28,100 which I would have taken (my bottom line is 28K). Did the facetime walk through, it was super brief, he said the car looked great. They came back to me at $26,500 because they said the car wasn’t 4 wheel drive so there wasn’t “demand” for it. I put 2 wheel drive on their online form. I told them no, they came back the next day at $27,300. It just doesn’t make sense for me to go below $28,000 so holding on to the car at this time.
So ya got the most money from algo and they’re coming to pick it up Tuesday (took awhile to get confirmation from the tow company, was getting worried I’d have to switch to Carvana to sell it). I would say that the process isn’t exactly seamless and it feels dated but whatever, got $800 more than carvana. I guess the one thing that was nice was that I could actually reach someone on the phone. Carvana was swamped when I sold my other vehicle and it literally took all day to get through. Overall the process has been fine and I’d sell to them again as long as the pickup goes well and they don’t pull any late shenanigans etc. Just wish their form filling etc. was all online and easily trackable.
I just called Carvana for something and they picked up on third ring.
What was the transport issue with ALGo? How did you resolve it? They are supposed to be picking up my car this week.
Hasn’t been picked up yet so no transport issues. They just took quite a bit longer to contact me than what I was originally told. 4 days instead of 24-48 hrs.
These guys are straight scum. I’m glad some of you had good experiences with these knuckleheads but mine was terrible.
I did an online appraisal for my truck back in April and they offered 12.5k which was couple hundred over CarMax. This was after I sent them very detailed pics of my truck showing damn near every bolt I could. Truck had decent amount of aftermarket farkles so I understood if it wasn’t in these folks wheel house. They assured me they wanted the truck.
They said if I wanted to sell the truck that weekend I’d have to meet their driver halfway, about 1.5 hours from my house. If not I’d have to wait another week. I said fine I can meet. I drive out and this slick back jersey shore dude hops out of their car takes one look and says wow we can’t take this truck. It’s been modded. I said yes I already gave a list to your rep etc show him the convo. “I have to ask my manger.” Long story they offer me something like 10k for the truck on the spot.
I was pretty heated and when I talked the rep who I gave all the info to… he said well it’s cuz of the after market stuff. In my head I’m like are you blind I sent you pics.
Then they keep emailing me asking to sell them the truck…
Lol, these guys are freaking jokes.
I’ve sold 3 cars since to carvana. And I couldn’t be happier, I got exactly what they offered and they came and picked up my car without any issues. I’ll def deal with them again if needed.
Kids, this is why we don’t mod vehicles if we care about longer-term salability. They are called “personalizations” for a reason, and they make selling your car very hard!
What does the physical appearance of the buyer have to do with anything?
Same thing happened to me. I sold them a MDX and though that I would have $800 in equity but when they picked the vehicle I received a $3150 check which I wasn’t expecting but made my day.
They are picking my ride up tomorrow, hope this happens! I truly doubt it because they are buying my car for 7K under MSRP!
Why are people questioning whether or not they’ll receive a specific amount of money, I had to sign a contract stating the exact terms and amount owed before moving forward?
I had no issues, car was picked up yesterday. The only sour part of the process was the tow truck driver showed up, told me how busy his day was, and how if he didn’t come to pick up the car today I was going to have to wait 4 weeks (which was weird because last week the dispatcher was very nice and gave me my choice of any day this week - I purposely moved it to Labor day because he mentioned he already had a car 1 town over and it would be easiest for the driver).
My 2 y/o son wanted to watch them put the car on the tow truck so we casually hung out while talking to the neighbor. When the tow truck driver finishes he very awkwardly and obviously starts fishing for a tip. “OK well I’m finishing up now” “Great, thanks again have a good night” “OK, I’m leaving” “Ok say bye bye Luke” - clearly he expected me to tip him, but it’s not my car any more, and he’s not doing me a favor - I didn’t even point out he was towing an AWD car with the rear wheels on the ground (hopefully he didn’t blow up the diff).
Overall very smooth, courteous and easy. 10 days from the first call to check in my hand.
AutoLenders Go picked up my XC40 this morning—easiest process and the driver was awesome. Totally seamless experience, five total days from start to check in hand. And that includes a holiday weekend.
With ~3K in positive equity, and including the Bonus Drive rebate, total net effective cost to drive for nine months was $346.34. Not bad for a 47K Volvo!
Thanks again to @AutoNinjas for the original deal that made this possible. Will miss the 40.
