I’ve seen a lot of debate on the internet on whether Chrysler Capital allows third-party sale of a vehicle within the last 60 days of the lease. I’ve even asked a bunch of different AIs whether this was possible and the consensus was that it was NOT possible.
Well, a day before my CCAP lease was set to expire, I sold my car to CarMax. I called CarMax ahead of time to ask them whether I could sell to them a day before my lease expiration or whether it needed to be 60 days before lease expiration and their response was to check with CCAP.
I called CCAP and was told that the 60-day rule was something that dealerships enforced, not CCAP. The reason dealerships do not like to buy CCAP leases that have less than 60 days remaining is that CCAP will not provide them with the dealer buyout amount, only the customer buyout amount. Apparently, the dealer buyout amount is less than the customer buyout amount, so dealerships make less money when they cannot get a dealer buyout amount.
Long story short, went to CarMax who offered me close to $1,000 over my customer buyout amount. Left CarMax with a $1,000 check and CarMax mailed CCAP a check for the buyout amount.
About a week later, my CCAP account showed as closed and the amount fully paid.
So YES, you can sell your CCAP lease car to third-party dealerships even within the 60-day window.
Hope this is helpful!
