I’ll look into them…we have a bunch of rebates in NY so curious how that’ll stack too…thanks for the info!

Just make an account on energysage (this is my referral link but you don’t have to use it; it just gives you $50) and start bidding. Or find local installers near you, but don’t buy from kids selling door to door. Solar typically costs something like 2.50-3 cents per kwh. So a 5 kw system should cost <$15k gross. And then you can figure out the math for your 30% tax credit.

I have no idea if OP services NY but if he does, I’m sure he’ll help you out. I used him in SoCal last year.

I didn’t catch the NY part before seeing if cyak could weigh in. Perhaps he has a few ideas or thoughts though.

That’s cause he didn’t mention it til after you’d already commented

I do have to agree that Tesla will be the cheapest, but it is also a pain to deal with if you need any type of support. Forget about trying to customize a package and etc. Just shop the many great regional companies in the area for a better experience.

First of all ask what the cash price is. The 4.99% rate comes at a significant cost to the solar installer which in turn raises their price to you.
It will most likely end up being cheaper paying a higher interest rate with less dealer fees.

Also before committing to such a large purchase, you should do some research on the company and verify that they are reputable and will be around for a few years in case you have issues.

Sorry haven’t been checking the website/forum as much but im here now… looks like Dukez has been holding down the fort well though haha.

How can I help

Our solar by SunPower finally turned on. Months of delays and incompetence by SunPower people and the city.

Yeah ironically SunPower has some of the highest customer ratings too, end of the day a lot is at the mercy of the Utility company and the state. They’re all just humans and subject to errors and malfeasance

They’re probably still backlogged with all the installs that rushed to submit for NEM 2.0 before the deadline.

CA is in utter disarray, it’s honestly a nightmare there atm

I truly do not understand why they jumped to 3.0 so fast with so little warning.

It wasn’t a deadline issue. The designer and installers are just clueless and incompetent.

Had someone able to hack home battery .? Loooked around not. Feeling worth it yet

For California specifically: the best hack for NEM 3 I’ve seen so far is to re-orient/ optimize the solar panels for evening power. Instead of angling a lot of panels for maximum total annual output as in NEM 2, NEM 3 optimizes for a smaller system with panels angled towards the west, optimizing output in the evening as power prices spike towards sunset. This works even if you don’t have storage.

If I was doing solar now on a new house I’d get westward/ evening optimized panels but no storage (still too expensive), but I’d plan for storage in the future. In a few years as storage costs come down adding battery storage without getting a new permit should pencil where it doesn’t now- the change in panel orientation will help in either case.

Not saying this is as good as NEM 2, just the way to make the best of a bad situation.

Just put $100 deposit down on Project Solar for a 4kw system in SoCal for $10k full install. Smaller systems incur a $2k “small system” charge. After about a month of research in prices and reviews, Project Solar seemed the best option. The CEO is not crazy and seems pretty intent on building a good image for his company. I have a huge, slightly tilted roof facing south, so I just need very basic panels for a 4k system.

Today is the day!

Is it like a 9V where you  the positive and negative terminals to make sure it’s working correctly? :battery:

Congrats. What’s the system size and are you getting a battery? We are in the design phase for a 4kw system, no battery. California, so nem 3 where they sell it to us for between $0.15 and $0.86 and buy it from us as $0.08

Huh, interesting that Tesla is turning out cheaper for you guys, I’m looking at a Tesla solar roof install and the quote they gave me was by far the most expensive vs the GAF solar shingles the other installers here offer, like almost $100k compared to $66k for GAF. This is for 9.75 kw. I think my roof is about 3000 sf? Does that sound right?

Also I already have solar panels on the house when I bought it, they’re from about 15 years ago, If I went and replaced them, what do I do with the old hardware? It just goes in the trash? put it in the shed for my future cabin in the woods?
