while that makes op’s personal deal less amazing, it doesn’f make the deal they secured on the lease any worse—as anyone in kansas could have secured the deal (though i suppose reg would have been rolled into the cost then, so maybe that would be reasonable to include)

Agreed. Kansas or surrounding states would drive the cost down significantly if you wanted to pick it up and not ship it. Kansas registration cost is dirt cheap.
I found not every dealer wants to ship the car. Friend got a ev9 deal from NC to register in MA and the dealer was not willing to ship – maybe just because he was not far enough 
Is there a way to track aging inventory on a dealer’s lot that you use to consider them as potential sales?
CarGurus shows listing age, although with some weird quirks at times.

I’m new to leasing and the forum, and just wanting to see what your strategy was to calling the out of state dealerships? Did you just look on the Kia website to see who had inventory, then called them and ask if they would lease to out of state? Trying to see how to go about starting a similar process. Thanks!
Use Cargurus to determine who has the lowest priced vehicle in the make and model you want. I then contacted dealerships out of state to see who was willing to deal with out of state leases.
