SIGNED: 2025 BMW iX xDrive50 loaner - $480 DAS, $480/month - All taxes/fees included

, ,

The Goal: After scoring a pretty insane deal on a Blazer EV last summer ($178/month, 1st month DAS), this summer it was time to find something to replace my i4 eDrive35. My goal was to get more car for less money than my i4.

The Hunt: I started looking into i5 deals first, and thought I could maybe get a reasonably equipped i5 loaner in that range. Then I noticed that 2025 iXs had a $12,000 lease credit, and thought there was a slim chance that I could actually find an iX that could work. After about a month of searching, the longshot came in for me in the form of this iX.

I had checked in on this dealer early in my search, and they informed me that 2025 iX loaners do not qualify for the $12,000, but instead only get the $7500 lease credit that also showed up in the Ratefindr. I did have at least 2 other dealers that gave me the same story on other 2025 iX loaners, though one LH user says that was never the case. Any broker or someone else know on that one for sure?

Regardless, with only the $7500 credit, after some back and forth with the dealer, I moved on thinking I couldn’t get this to be at my goal price range, but I kept an eye on it as I continued my search. Then, near the end of June, they dropped their price on it again by a few thousand, and I thought “Ok, they really want to get this thing sold.” I checked back in with the sales associate I was talking with earlier in the month and pushed further, eventually getting them to take another $2k off to close the deal. That brought the price down to $607/month with just 1st months due at signing, which was not quite what my goal was, but I thought it was pretty damn close and still a phenomenal deal for a $101k MSRP car. We agreed to the deal on June 30th, but they said they wouldn’t be ready to close until July 2.

The Twist: I showed up to the dealer on July 2 and the sales associate says “You’re going to be really happy…” because their system was now showing that, in July, the $12,000 lease credit DOES apply to 2025 loaners. He insisted this was not the case in June, but when their system got the July programs in, this BMW iX now qualified. I thought I had a pretty great deal already, but now… wow.

And I even love the color!

What was the other $2,000 in rebates? Great deal.

Oh, yeah, sorry, I didn’t make that clear.

I got the $2000 BMW loyalty credit also, which, actually, is kind of a negotiation as well. BMW’s loyalty credits are setup as half of it being paid by BMW, and the other half is a “recommended dealer contribution.” I did have to ask them to honor that, and several other dealers wouldn’t do the same in the course of my search.

When I worked at a BMW dealer many years ago, we could give every customer loyalty to make the deal work, even if they didn’t have a BMW.

So basically you used to work at a dealer that did fraud

Welcome to the dealership world, my friend.

Great work on this deal! You knew all the details and used the knowledge to your advantage. Most buyers in July would’ve ended up with the same payment as originally negotiated in June, and the dealer would’ve kept 4.5k of their discount.

You did well to not only get that additional cash to your bottom line, but to be the type of buyer they knew they couldn’t slip that past.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess! Tried to throw out a lead. They seemed to think it was leasable when I talked to them, but now they’re saying it can’t be leased.

Thank you for the lead Sir..i called them and they were like it is not leasable as it was a trade-in.

Carfax shows titled as Corp fleet vs personal lease but likely prohibits a new car lease.

It appears so. Is this 12k lease credit only applicable for 2025 models ?

Well they definitely weren’t gonna play ball anyways after 20 people bombard them on one unit trying to get $480/mo :joy:

Weird. I got several emails deep into offering to lease and they didn’t say it wasn’t leasable. My first email I’m pretty sure asked about this specifically. Shrug… but sorry! I’ll delete it to avoid further confusion.

I’ve found that determining leasability is kind of weird on BMWs. The Carfax will often say “corporate fleet” when it’s a BMW corporate vehicle, which I believe would be leasable with less than 5000 miles, but sometimes it will say that when it is an actual confirmed loaner, too. Maybe it varies by state? Sometimes the Carfax says “dealer took title of this vehicle while in inventory,” also, which I think almost always means it’s a loaner? That was the case with this iX at Roxbury, so… Not sure what the deal is.

Like @carrot56 mentioned, it probably is due to people blowing up their phone lines after seeing this post

Even at list price with incentives applied it would’ve been a pretty good deal…

Per the Carfax, it definitely was a dealer demo/loaner. Although the Carfax is a bit weird with multiple entries with ‘dealer took title,’ there are no entries denoting a personal registration. Woodcliff Lake, NJ and Oxnard, CA (uncommon) are the indicators of BMW NA corporate cars which are not eligible to lease once over 5k miles.

I’ve had dealers send me info on the wrong unit before. Even had the Carfax disclosure statement for a random vehicle printed and handed to me while signing for a car.

I’m between two possibilities here: maybe they looked at a different car, or the swap between their Roxbury and Morristown inventory was significant with respect to lease eligibility? It was a loaner at Roxbury then was retired and listed for sale at Morristown with 9,950 miles and is now back at Roxbury with the same mileage over 3 months later.

Carfax’s categorization of corporate fleet is not specific enough with regard to lease eligibility for BMWs. It is a good initial indicator, but then you need to determine whether it was actually a BMW NA corporate car or dealer demo/loaner as they have different rules for leasing. And some states such as VA have their loaners dealer-registered as “rental” cars. But actual rentals with “rental company” in the history are of course not leaseable.

I had reached out about this vehicle two weeks ago and they had told me it was not leasable.

I was talking to a dealer in Oregon for a loaner iX. Even they believed it was leasable until they submitted the request to BMW and got the response it can’t be leased. Not really sure what criteria applies to the vehicles. It was otherwise meeting all the popular conditions discussed here for a leasable loaner.
