SIGNED - 2023 RAV4 Prime SE | Bay Area | $46,415 MSRP | $3000 DAS | 36/10 - $710 monthly | Immediate Buyout

Reliability aside, I miss my 2nd gen Volt. I don’t really miss my RAV4 Prime. The Volt also made it through a 3 year lease with no issues and one oil change.

Battery is solid on any Toyota HEV/PHEV, what was problematic on the early batches was the HV cabling. Production fix was applied late 2020, so basically unless you forget oil changes or decide to go to moab…the Prime will outlast the owners prime.

With toyota severely battery production limited, like they did not expect EVs to take off, the resell will tasty for a long time.

Why not get another and flip it? What’s MMR?

Congrats!
Please share your early buyout experience with Toyota lease and how much you ended up netting out of 6.5K. I’m thinking of doing similar.

You are buying a first gen PHEV product, not their Hybrid. These are entirely different powertrains. If you want a reliable Hybrid, get their Hybrid.

Toyota literally had a recent recall on their first EVs because the wheels kept falling off. They have been coasting on “muh reliable” reputation for a long time.

Toyota pure EVs are coasting on “reliability” as per the press releases and battery warranty claims. They’re hoping that folks on the bandwagon come out and ignore their lackluster performance because TOYOTA. They’re in for a rude awakening when Toyota basically abandons support on these since its a compliance product.

The Toyota R4P is far from a 1st gen product. The first generation Toyota PHEV was launched in 2012 as the Toyota Prius XW30. The R4P powertrain has been refined over many generations (3rd).

I get the misunderstanding though, alot of companies are launching headfirst with their PHEVs, whereas in years past it was Toyota only affair.

Great deal considering the market on these

I understand and I wasn’t saying that it’s guaranteed to be reliable (if you read the next sentence). PHEVs are new to every manufacturer so my point is that out of everyone making them, I’ll take my bet on the Toyota being the most likely to get it right.

Thinking about it but I actually need a car so can’t get rid of it without a replacement. I’ll keep my eye out for another one over the next few weeks and if I can flip it before paying full sales tax I probably will.

Here’s a calculator to fuel the outrage :fire:

Having your Mirai towed-in (as it moves through a bounty of free hydrogen it can’t consume) doesn’t have any pull on a new Prime?

Yea but those clear guards that you can get for $10 were installed by a trained professional for the low cost of $395.

There’s 2 hydrogens in water molecules so common sense says that if you fill your Mirai with water, not only will it work it will be twice as efficient.

Yeah… the don’t miss the poor NVH of the RAV4 Prime… It’s a fricking RAV4 people. It’s rides like ass, it’s noisy, it’s cheap on the inside, and the audio made my ears bleed. It’s not a $46K car. It’s closer to a $32K car with a $15K drivetrain.

With that said… the Atkinson cycle engine will be reliable. It’s one of the few PHEVs/EVs that I think will last 15 years.
