Really enjoyed the Grand Wagoner we had for a rental in CLT. Was pleasantly surprised by the interior fit and finish, IMO way better than Yukon Denali interiors. Don’t have enough seat time in new body style Navigators and Escalades to compare.
Booked a Camry but they ran out of everything so gave me this instead. I’d never buy one but the adaptive cruise control was helpful
And on another rental, it was this or a Malibu and I really wanted to try the Charger, the V6 was great and they were kind enough to already put a blank collision form in the glove box just in case.
Thanks to fine Avis experiences like
I can now look forward to
It is not clear who at Avis oversees cybersecurity for the company.
Traveling to Orlando with my 6 year old son in October. Anyone have recommendations for a fun rental option for our 5 day stay?
Amex travel has a few decent deals. Turo was more expensive but had better options.
Madam Chairwoman, I would like to revise and extend my remarks for the record.
Enterprise rental at IAD, booked direct (same rate as Costco and other places), in an “X3 or similar”. Profile was completely up to date, and went through a “check in process” the day prior but realized as I was taking shuttle to facility that my CC wasn’t on file - tried to add that and it wouldn’t save.
Arrived at facility and there were 13 people in line, 3 agents but all lanes were “slow lanes”. Every cell in my body said “leave and call an Uber” but I ignored it. Kudos to the lady in front of me who got the only vehicle available in our class, by the time I went outside with my paperwork - no joy.
Went back inside, waited behind 8 people to adjust the class down and see what else was available. Recontracted, went outside, all they had were 6 identical Nissan Rogues. Back inside to cancel.
Booked a replacement using the Avis app and walked next door, an experience I highly recommend. Not a far distance but rolling on Potemkin sidewalks (gracias MWAA) between secured lots with luggage in 100% humidity is the genuine DC/VA experience.
Got to Avis and my name was on the board “See Agent” - he was keeping all the A/C inside that booth to himself (as would I). Not many cars, no “choose your car” experience so we went through everything on his green screen until I got the one (beat, FILTHY) XC60
I would have abided the condition except: it could NOT stay between the lanes, whether I was gripping the wheel or with LKA. At least one wheel out of balance.
I put up with it for 1 day, then after a dinner meeting in Leesburg I swung thru Avis Dulles again at 11pm. I tried calling the location on the way, that was impossible. I ended up calling Roadside for a “quick exchange”
It was not quick, there were no staff at the Preferred desk. I walked right up to the counter and it took as long as a new rental to recontract. My replacement whip, a filthy CX-5 with 45k miles that stunk like 10 gym lockers.
It was better than my 2013 CX-5, biggest issue was it is still USB-A and now that my iPhone is USB-C the 8 different cables I brought with me couldn’t gender-bend into USB-C to USB-A Male. CVS bailed me out for only $10
I went through the hassle of reactivating my EZ-Pass in July, which probably saved time/money but try not to look at the transactions until you get home, yikes.
Update 1: when I got my e-receipt Avis had upcharged for the car and did NOT adjust it when I swapped, so there is a $245 charge we need to chat about. Luckily I got the Manager’s cell phone during the exchange.
Update 2: Avis Customer Care removed the toll pass (after sending screenshots from my EZ Pass account) and saw I was charged for an upgrade I didn’t receive, and refunded the difference to my credit card.
Booked two cars for Honolulu in November for one day (will decide which to keep) through AVIS-COSTCO to get to Hotel and buy some stuff/refreshments MALASADAS etc for the stay…
Standard SUV (Ford Edge or similar) $53 total price
EV-Tesla Standard Range $49 total price
Keep monitoring the prices and the EV went down from $99 to $77 to $49 so I reserved it too. AVIS has a 70% return battery charge, so I may take it as it has the NAVIGATION too, but more convenient would be the GAS SUV for refueling, as TESLA only has 2 SC locations on Oahu. Could charge for FREE at the Ala Moana Shopping Center for an hour (won’t need more than 30 miles charge anyway) while getting Breakfast
I enjoyed reading the story but my blood pressure has increased for you lol. wow.
There is an equally convoluted hotel story this trip but that would be OT
Drop-off went about as well as pickup(s). Next time I might one-pay a blazer ev where I’m going and transfer it after.
I’ve honestly contemplated doing something similar on a couple of my longer trips (and when rates are high), but ultimately decided it wouldn’t be worth the hassle to hopefully save a few bucks.
I had a 2025 CX-5 from Alamo in Reno a couple of weeks ago and a passenger was looking for USB-A but couldn’t find it. Luckily I had a USB-C cable but discovered as I was returning it that the only USB-A port was inside a compartment of the fold down rear armrest of all places. Looks like that’s a change for 2025.
Probably wouldn’t buy one, but not bad for something that hasn’t been redesigned in years.
4Runner SR5 with 15k miles through Avis Club del Presidente. Lowest rate with Costco and a 2 class upgrade gratis.
Other options in the app were not options, went to the Preferred desk and was basically told to FO - app or nothing despite a lot full of choices. Always get the employee name, mark date and time for the scathing email to Customer Service for a shot at the full refund. We’ll see…
For the life of me I will never understand where the deep scratches on the highest parts of the paint come from no matter what the car.
Maybe the touch car washes they use every time someone returns a vehicle?
Could be, but it seems they would figure that out sooner rather than later?
