Should I wait for december 3 week/ 4th week

Guys - may be a case of FOMO

Qn : If in no rush , would it be worth to wait for december 3rd week / 4th week deals?

To be honest I never tracked the trends closely during an year end . However below are two real world examples I have :

  • Brother , in 2019 ( I know 2022 is different  ) december , bought 2020 Q7 - good trim , 18% off MSRP
  • Close friend - 2020 ,December 3rd week, bought 2020 X5 - good trim , little wierd interior color but 16% off MSRP

context :

Buying : Luxury midsize SUV - Q7 / GLE450 / X5

Observation : My general observation is that , there is no shortage of inventory for the models that I see . So use that assumption

Added for clarity : Definitely not comparing Dec 2020 or Dec 2019 to Dec 2022 . The comparison is more Nov 2022 Vs Dec end 2022 .

Edited: 16% off - typo as 6% off

Basically you are left with what’s on the lot (if any) and your choices on color / options / trim will be very slim.

But yes I’ve seen great deals in December.

Yes, it’s a different time, but I got 25% off a demo in the last week of 2020. You’ve just got more limited options to choose from.

It is, but the lots are starting to flow with stock, it will be an incredible deal compared to June 2022, but comparing to Dec 2020? Nah.

@forbs Good point about the variety , In general I am not too fussy about the options , but just saying to myself to not go to the most expensive trim - even if there is a good deal .

@Petrem Thats significant . Was the demo advertised or you specifically asked for them ?

It was advertised (but obviously not at 25% off). I had a number in mind (I think it was 38,500 or so on a 52k MSRP) at which I would do a deal, and I gave them the number and they worked with me to get there.

I think I remember that one!

I know a wrangler 4xe does not fit your suggested criteria…but something tells me there may be Christmas blowouts for any that remain on lots.

“Blowout” I think will be relative to what is available now, but not what these Jeeps went for in the glory days (spring to fall 2021).

  101010

Man I miss those days… I just can’t get excited about “deals” that are referenced as being “only” a certain amount over MSRP and money factors that do not have three zeros in them to start😵‍💫

I think it was MF 0.00082 and 0 down. Hate when deals are shown and they’ve got like 2-3k upfront when you open the calc, before taxes… that’s why dealers ads have a bad rep

I’m in the same boat. I was really tempted by the current CX-9 deals (especially for a short 24mo lease), but its not my ideal vehicle and I ultimately think I’m going to roll the dice and see if I can pull the trigger on a December deal.

Believe me - it is very tough to hold the temptation  one part of me tells - there is no rush , whats your problem . The other part says : go ahead , may be you will pay few k more , but get done with this

I know every one’s situation is different , but I see some of my friends , no absolute rush - they have MDX’s Rav4’s which are going strong , but they “HAD” to buy a kia over msrp . I mean , I would not be able to sleep if I pay over MSRP for a hyundai or a Kia . So the insanity has to stop and then it will take a month or two for dealers to wake up from their dreams.

Eitherway - no matter what - the craziness is almost over .

I think you’re right in terms of inventory and the notion of over MSRP being “normal” but the interest rates are still a bit rough, and probably won’t come down drastically for a few months at the earliest (would be my very uneducated guess)

Audi just lowered the MF on some models (Q5 and SQ5 not sure about the rest)

If you are looking for X5 don’t worry about variety. This is a weird year and there aren’t too many 2022s left and dealers are moving most to loaner inventory. I believe that there will be more 2023 inventory in December vs now.

Reviving this thread since its December. So far, not looking like MFs are going in the direction I’d want. But, maybe we’ll start seeing some December incentives? Anyone noticing any great December deals yet?

The December MF got a little better. IMHO if you are flexible with color combo and options you will get a better deal after Christmas. I will probably start poking people in about two weeks.
