We’re open for now with no less staff and no modified hours. I personally think there should be a national “shelter in place” order for every citizen unless you work in a true essential business…car sales essential?? If we’re not all contributing to the solution, than in essence we’re only helping it spread.
Can you please add me to that group? No…seriously.
This can’t be stressed enough. The “human element” is all that matters right now. Our families and loved ones should be the only priority.
They need to shut down these dealerships or do deliveries only (throw the keys at them)!
The good thing is, brokers can still tag cars and work deal numbers so when virus spread slows down, customers can get these cars.
We are going to have bigger problems than hacking car deals if we don’t shut down the entire US. We are going to see record companies, big and small, go under.
Come grab a seat over here and go through my emails and listen to the phone calls. Everyone is asking for best price due to the coronavirus. I told a few people they have to buy from a salesperson who has coronavirus to get that discount. Still waiting for an awesome angry Yelp review for that one!
I totally believe that. I’ve received a number of texts asking about the, “COVID sale,” and I am just ignoring them. As a business owner, I will probably regret putting my personal thoughts out here for the public, but my morals are my morals and people can think what they want.
I have been working deals for folks who near closing are saying, “let’s wait two weeks and see how bad it gets. I bet there’s an extra couple of points to go.”
Not even sure I want to work with those people any longer. Plenty of fish in the sea.
I literally had a member on here reach out to me first asking urgently about a 1 unit deal I had posted. He/She then goes, oh can it get better cause of all the craziness. I doubt there’s anyone else buying cars right now with all this craziness… Do you think deals are going to be much better than a $235 dollar Accord in June due to inventory being high … and the list kept going on to the point I had to cough loudly and hang up.
Do you really believe that a dealer is going to just take a loss on a car when there is so much uncertainty at play just to get rid of it? What advantage does a dealer have in that scenario?
Let’s not forget, business is open to make money, not lose it. There is zero advantage for a dealer to open up his pocket and sell a car at a loss unless they are going to hit a bonus. Otherwise, it would cost them less just to let the car rot on the lot.
Will there be deals? Yes. There’s always a deal. If you are expecting unicorns falling from the sky though, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
Okay so who would take a coronavirus infection for a deal that is 10% better than any deal ever seen on a specific vehicle? Also you DO get a free roll of toilet paper with the vehicle.
I would do it if/when I get laid off. I am 35 and fairly healthy. If I die then I don’t have to worry about anything. Michael Scott would call this a win-win-win.
No, dealers should not stay open sans service. And if that is slow, shut it down as well. Or work with other dealer service centers to stagger who is open. (Doubtful that could ever happen) For those that work at a dealership on here, if they’re still open, they don’t give a rats arse about you. Period.
Yes when things are semi back to normal there will be deals. Possible end of year type pricing? Maybe. Maybe not that low. Do they lose money on all of those year end sales? No.
I would suggest skeleton crews on sales side and all deals done online, with staff working remotely if possible.
Service is important to stay open as they can be essential in providing repairs for crucially required vehicles or parts. Loaner vehicles once in-taken should not be given out until this thing is done.
A month or two in flooring cost isn’t the end of the world. We still get paid on profit and a sales manager does too, even if it’s in the best interest of the business we aren’t going to work for free.
