@Boomba despite being very left-leaning I might agree with you on that one
Look at that, leasehackr brought together bipartisanship ![]()
Whenever I hear people talk about corporate greed I ask, so I take it you never try to maximize your salary? In a free market economy there’s no such thing as greed. Oustide of illegal activities, we’re all greedy in that we try to make the most money we can. And there’s nothing wrong with that. If someone offered you a 30% raise tomorrow would you say, oh no I can’t possibly take it, that would be greedy of me? Of course not. Nobody would say that.
But if a corporation raises prices 30%, they’re the mostest evilest entity on the planet.
Let’s keep politics out of this discussion.
Back to the topic at hand - I had to pass on a '23 Lucid cos my insurance premium was going to be much more than I had anticipated. My agent mentioned that Lucid is a fairly new brand and EVs are more expensive to fix. But also that insurance premiums have increased across the board.
I am paying about $1200/year for a 2024 Ioniq 5 and about $1k/year for my wife’s 2017 Pacifica (paid off). My 2021 Audi A6 was about $1500/year (It is going back this weekend/early next week). These premiums are for two adult drivers over 35 with good driving records in MA. I have my home owner’s bundled with my car insurance, so getting some “additional” discount.
For my upcoming renewal, they want nearly $2k/year for our Wrangler 4xe. Nothing on my end has changed at all. That is outrageous. I used to pay well under $100/mo.
My renewal comes up in November, so we shall see by how much my rates go up. I am not planning to add a 3rd car to my policy for at least another year.

gas, hybrid - whatever.
snowy offramps too
That’s even a worse story, it’s uninsured…lol
Test Jeep Catches fire…at Jeep HQ
We prefer to say self insured.
Car insurance is a competitive market but a surprising number of policyholders never switch. Since loss ratios have been poor the past few years those loyal customers will get them back to profitability and already have. But billions will also be spent via marketing and discounts to entice switching.
As mentioned in another thread the Crown Vic is a heckuva ride if you want something that’s cheap to insure and cheap to fix.
But expensive to gas up! lol. An old Honda Civic can fit all 3.
$2,290 for the Lucid vs $1,500 for a 2021 A6 doesn’t seem that bad of a jump, if I read that correctly
True but I couldn’t justify paying that much for a third car I would probably only drive on the weekends.
On a different note, I have my eyes set on a couple of other cars anyway.
