RIP Infiniti Q70

Well thats cause their parent company (Hyundai) isnt failing miserably at managing both their brands (Nissan)…

This does not exist :upside_down_face:

Shocking that the canine hundred and credenza failed to attract buyers.

Naming jokes aside, the K9 is a Kia Phaeton… it’s for that miniscule segment of buyers who rationalize it as a “7 series for 65K”

 Guess it’s not surprising the hamster wheel company sells vehicles named after pets and furniture.

It’s kind of a shame that the Cadenza (I’m assuming) leases horribly because…Kia. I think it looks great! I have seen exactly…1 K900 on the road since the latest redesign.

I wish they’d just throw in the towel and give the Cadenza the Optima nameplate. They’d actually sell some of the damn things then!

If sales are down, they could always look to the law enforcement market

Then I got a Toyota Century you’d really like (apparently complete w/ velour upholstery b/c leather is considered too showy for the Japanese diplomats and such!)…

I think I might’ve seen one today. I’m sort of saddened that the large (but not enormous), cushy sedan cruiser (Maxima, Avalon, multiple Buicks) is going the way of the dodo bird. They served a purpose, and I’d rather share the road w/ one of those than an SUV…

I can’t recall ever seeing a tv spot/advertising for either the Hyundai or Kia clones. They might want to talk to their Marketing department. An ad or 50 would be a start at least.

I never see tampon ads, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.

What kind of rock do you live under?

So not quite the same thing as an obscure Korean car model in a dying segment of the market…

I think for the K900 they have been a lot more selective of its advertising and being hyper focused as to their target audience. They have a K900 perched outside the performing arts complex near my office (I believe Kia is a sponsor of the avenue). I’ve seen a few ads in more “inspirational” magazines, like the first-class only magazines for United (can’t think of the name right now) / Architectural Digest / Monocole.

But back on topic, the Q70 is stupidly outdated both inside and out and would have needed a lot to get it up to par with their competitors. Why are they still using the old VQ37VHR engine when the Q50 changed over to the VR30DDTT? Lexus does it (mostly) better with the GS but that’s probably going to go away soon too.

Please tell me Monocle is a parody magazine and not a name they are using unironically.

It’s not a parody, and it’s actually one of my favorite magazines to read. https://monocle.com/

I feel like changing the naming conventions was one of the worst decisions Infiniti and Acura each made.

People knew what Legends and Integras were. Then they changed to alphanumeric. Then, just as names like TL and TSX had built up some brand equity, they were gone.

Same with Infiniti G, M, and FX. Anyone in the market for something in that segment knew what those were. Then suddenly it was just Q and QX everything with the following numbers meaning nothing other than their relative internal hierarchy

100% agreed. I’m an enthusiast and even I can’t keep the Infiniti models straight.

I don’t understand how Acura made the same mistake twice, killing names with cache and following. So stupid.

I totally agree (and same w/ Cadillacs multiple stupid changes to their naming scheme; thankfully, Lincoln seems to have discovered that names work better than a meaningless string of letters for most brands), but one must also acknowledge that their products also became woefully uncompetitive.

Does Acura make anything as interesting as the Integra or as paradigm-shifting as the Legend or (original) NSX? I lusted after a Legend coupe as a teen. Doubt any teenage car enthusiasts care about Acura’s current lineup…

Does Infiniti make anything comparable to the original Q45? Nope. Even the G --> Q50 has totally lost the thread. It used to a poor man’s BMW, and now it’s ___? The FX was, to a certain extent, the pre-Macan. What does Infiniti make in that segment now? Oh, that’s right; a warmed over Pathfinder.

To certain extent, Japanese car makes (Toyota/Lexus aside) have victims of their own success. They raised the bar… and then stumbled over the standards that they themselves had helped to create (while MB and BMW have responded w/ ruthless efficiency).

Even Kia Fortes nowadays are seem like totally decent vehicles. Thankfully, the industry is so mature that you can’t produce sh*t and get away w/ it.

It’s also the fictional magazine from an episode of Frasier

Dr. Niles Crane : I simply phoned the box office and said this is Niles Crane, the new arts critic for “The Monocle”.

Daphne Moon : “The Monocle”. Isn’t that that magazine they hand out to rich people in all the snootiest apartment buildings?

Dr. Niles Crane : [proudly] And the snootiest hotels.

Back to the thread, the Q70 is being killed, but will be back in 2021 (possibly as a MY2022) as the Q80 and likely EV-only. However, that’s a ways off still and it’s not for sure Infiniti will not cancel the vehicle prior to then.

Of course not. Nor do any adult enthusiasts, or anybody really.

Even the 2-4gen TL’s, the RSX, and the 1st gen TSX were unique and very compelling vehicles. Every vehicle they have is a half assed effort. Except of course for the NSX, which is way too complicated and expensive. Pretty much the exact opposite of what Honda is and always has been.
