RIP Infiniti Q70

I totally forgot that this car even existed

FWIW, I was a HUGE fan of the M45 and I love me big sedans.

Perhaps the fact that it’s the only Infiniti that leases like total crap had something to do with it…cannot imagine that Infiniti has very many purchase customers.

It was so dated inside, but then again all their cars are.

It’s about time.

Sums up most of their lineup

When I valeted in high school, I preferred the M45 over the 5 series and A6. Granted, that was my 17 year old self, but there was something interesting about it.

what was interesting is that it didnt come with a 4 cylinder and sounded great.

5 series didn’t have 4 cylinders in the US until 2012 IIRC

Both

The first gen M45 was quirky, interesting and cool. What a good Japanese luxury sedan should be. Instead of a cheaped out BMW derivative.

I never drove one but I always liked the retro profile and proportions. Lots of glass, like an E28 BMW’s greenhouse. A raked C-pillar that flows into a long rear deck lid like an E28 or a W116 Mercedes.

The front end was a poor hack job attempting to integrate the corporate grille into an existing design.

The 2nd gen was a much better looking car from the front. Subtle aero treatment of the Sport model was well done

I rented one of these recently- Actually not too bad if you set your expectations as such.

Think of it less of a E300/5 series/ A6 competitor and more along the lines of a loaded Impala, Avalon, 300c.

These will be amazing deals on the preowned lot one day if not already.

You’ll probably see new, untitled ones still on the lot in 2 years.

I had one of these 2007 M45 with the oem 19" wheel. Superb ride. It was not as fast as my buddies older first gen 550i buy it was a cruiser. I looked at the M56x sport trim but the interior was not right. Had many issues with premature wear.

The first gen was an interesting weird car. I have a soft sport

The 2nd gen was an also ran in a field of nice cars. Not terrible, but not a stand out.

The one that came after that was a real head scratcher as to why they even made it at all…

Every aspirational brand needs a flagship. BMW needs the 7-series even though tons of their volume is just selling rebadged Minis.

This was also at a time when flagships were generally sedans and not SUVs.

Hopefully the rest of Infiniti will get discontinued…

Yeah Infiniti has fallen off a cliff

First M45 was a little too JDM for me (from a design perspective), and, yes, I get that that’s part of the appeal for some.

The second gen is actually one of Consumer Reports most highly-rated cars.

Cancelled and yet they STILL sold more of these than both the Kia K900 & Cadenza combined last month (which I’d put in the same category as this really)
