Registration/License Plate

It seems like a simple thing for Mr Dealer GM to produce would be:

  • copies of all paperwork they have submitted to MO for replacement title
  • Canceled check(s)
  • FedEx receipts with tracking information
  • Copies of written correspondence and their notes on calls (when they called, who they spoke with, what they were told)

Their tag and title clerk(s) should have all this in a file. They can hand it over now in good faith, or to a state AG if requested, or to your attorney following a demand letter. (?)

I have requested fedex with tracking information, which supposedly “he didn’t get tracking”, BS of course
-no canceled checks
-have requested the written correspondence now and told him I will reach out to the DMV myself and see if the state AG can get involed.

Thank you!

update:
-AG has been notified and spoke with MO DMV and they mentioned they have no paperwork from the dealership from any time frame.
-Spoke with the owner of the dealership and he is willing to take the vehicle back and refund me my pp and sales tax. at least thats what he is stating.
-waiting to talk to my cpa regarding tax implications as vehicle was used for 1099 purposes specifically

At this point I wouldn’t trust the seller if he told me the sky was blue, much less that you’ll be getting a refund.

Agreed, hence taking all other steps as well.
Thanks!

Whatever you do don’t turn that car over until his refund money clears your account. And get something in writing and signed by him.

What kind of car was this ?
How many miles have you been able to put on this car since possession?

Seems very odd, why the owner is willing to cancel the transaction now after what 18 months ? Is MO DMV at least able to confirm to you that the title is clean and in dealers or owners name ?

agreed, while we did speak on the phone, I will get it via text confirmation for sure. In addition, I will have him wire the money (at least my initial deposit) /speak with my bank about what is acceptable/instant verification for proof of funds.

2023 ram 1500. I got it with roughly 2.2k miles and now has about 29k miles.
-I do feel there is some shadiness to the situation as via call he said “i just want to make things right for you and you be very patient, and your a nice guy…etc etc”.
-After speaking with DMV agent again, this is what they told me " I have no record in Missouri or out of state with this VIN. My guess is it’s never been titled before and it’s being sold on a Certificate of Origin, that comes from the manufacturer, so if the dealer was waiting on that, it would be coming from the manufacturer and not us"

-I asked about further insight/clarification and agent stated “I would definitely get back with the dealer and tell them you spoke to us and we advised there was no title history for this VIN in any state so we think it may be being sold on an MSO which comes from the manufacturer, if they still won’t provide the needed paperwork, i would then seek legal advice.”
