Recent lease buy out experience of 2021 Tundra

Looking to sell my 2021 Tundra as we are moving to an SUV in the next few months. Got a Vroom, Carvana, CarMax, and dealer offer. Vroom was the highest at 52k, but then found out they don’t buyout leases anymore. We could purchase it and then sell to them, but the hassle of that was not enticing. Carvana came in at just over 46k, which was enough below my payoff of 49k that it wasn’t going to be worth it. CarMax then offered 51k. Took it to the dealer and got an offer that matched CarMax, but included some waiving of cancellation fees. Tried to get them to match Vroom, but no dice.

Lesson for today, make sure to get multiple offers and if you can. The nice buyouts of leases is not dead.

Who was your lease with?

This is a good post and reminder that you can utilize your best online quote from Carvana, Carmax, Enterprise, whomever to leverage on a trade-in value with a dealer (after you have your OTD pricing or lease pricing worked out - then bring up the possible trade). After they come back with their first low ball trade-in offer - or before just to cut right to the chase if you are happy with the trade-in target price.

A nice screenshot with your VIN and a Carvana quote and expiration date could do the trick.

Yes, all the taxes and potential write-offs really impact trade value. Another aspect we saved on by using the dealer we purchased from was refund on unused warranties, such as GAP and wear and tear. If we went with CarMax (or whoever), getting those prorated amounts refunded would have been a hassle, but going through the dealer who issued those warranties made it very simple. When all is said and done, we ended up paying about $190 a month for 6 months to use the Tundra.
