What’s the announcement on the recharge supposed to be about? We have a 2022 T8 now and we’re looking at a new 2024 XC90 Ultimate at a big discount.
Major refresh. Few if any rumors but I have some guesses. From what I have heard, if you can find a 2024 at a good discount, it’s worth grabbing. We haven’t found the color combo my wife wants in that year so we are going to wait on the announcement to decide if she wants the 2025 or wait on the refresh.
I’d imagine the “new” 2025s currently on dealer lots will start to get better discounts as well, so color/combo options should improve - the refresh will be a 2025 model as well? Guess those details will be announced on the 4th as well? I’m guessing an improvement on EV only range of the T8 - and if that’s the case - current T8s will sit at current prices i’d be willing to bet.
My guesses:
Larger center screen
Wireless CarPlay
Extended battery range (70 miles?)
Faster charging
Minor exterior stuff
Those are good guesses - definitely larger center screen to probably more closely resemble the EX90. Faster charging and increased range for sure.
I bet it will look the same as the EX90
In what way are you expecting this to change your decision process?
Two potential ways:
- Wife sees something announced that is a ‘must have’ or they bring that Cloud Blue color option which would be an absolute Yes from her
- The announcement shortens the lifespan of the 2025 model and makes it a lame duck which ups the incentives and/or allows for better deals.
I have a current 24 month Volvo lease in GA. Their MF was higher than what was listed wtih Edmunds, but in the end, the overall deal was good.
Got a Deal on the 2025 XC90 Ultra Recharge 7- seater!
Wife told me she really wants the car now and only was agreeable to waiting on the 9/4 announcement because I was being my usual techie self…
So I walked to the local Volvo dealer after work and showed them the selling price for the NH car. They came back with selling price of 74,500 and base MF.
Gave deposit and waiting on car to arrive.
Final numbers:CALCULATOR | LEASEHACKR
I think I was able to get a good deal on a 2025 XC90 Recharge Ultra 7-seater in MA. I had posted a couple of weeks ago for help after getting a deal from a no-haggle place but ended up visiting with a more local dealer who beat the selling price and MF. This is for a 36m/7500 mile lease with 2500 down. Don’t have a BMW or Volvo now for extra savings.
Calculator below but got:
MSRP 81,765
Selling Price 74,500 (8.9% off)
8,000 Rebate
RV 63% (base)
MF 0.00314 (which is base per Edmond’s)
Seems solid for the new model even though I know there is a major refresh being announced 9/4 (wife doesn’t want to wait on that). As it turns out, car is ‘in transit’ and expected on 9/5 so I still get to see what is announced.
Besides asking about the deal, I’m trying to decide if it makes any sense to buy out the car immediately. The calculator says the ‘rent charge’ on this deal is $13,170. I was interested in a lease especially given the rumor of a major refresh and being able to hand over this car in 3 years and upgrade. I’m not sure how to calculate the ‘savings’ (if any) on buying the car outright and trading it in or selling it in 2-3 years.
Thanks!
It’s already been leaked. Photos are out there and readily available.
As for buying it out immediately… if youre only planning on holding it for 2-3 years, I wouldnt bother. Youre talking about giving up the depreciation risk offset for not that much rent charge savings. If you were going to hold it for 10 years, it might be a different story.
What do you mean by “new model”? It’s the same body that’s been around almost 10 years.
There’s nothing particularly novel about a refresh. And given Volvo’s lack of investment in their gas lineup you really shouldn’t be holding your breath. But if that’s the goal then don’t set yourself an arbitrary deadline to find a good deal on the next one by 9/5/2027; just buy a CPO 2021 XC90 T8 for $35k before $1,500 Costco incentive and then pick & choose the date of the upgrade when the deal is right.
I mean this is for the 2025 XC90 recharge and not the 2024 year that most have posted good deals for. I thought 8.9% off a car just making it onto the lot was a pretty good deal as was the base MF.
And a 2021 is neither here nor there as looking at new cars
As a traditional lease, what you posted is really poor TBH. It’s the opposite of a lease hack.
But I get it: if it’s your and/or your wife’s dream car then lease it, immediately buy it out for 5+ year ownership. Don’t call it your dream car if you’re fantasizing about some unknown refresh yet to be announced or how you can chuck the keys back in 3 years with no equity and start over again.
If it’s really your dream car then buy it out immediately after leasing it for 60-odd grand; it’s a good relative value at that price compared to 3-row Audi, BMW and MB models, some of which are newer but they aren’t PHEVs.
But taking the lease to term would not be a good play here.
To be fair, that’s only the most noticeable change!

I dunno, I personally didn’t think they were gong to do much w/ this update (w/ all the forthcoming EVs), so this is pretty much what I thought it was going to be.
Not available until first quarter 2025.
