QX60 vs MDX vs GX460 for family road trip

I just got the following from a local Infiniti Dealer:

I have worked up numbers for a car like we had discussed. MSRP of 47,985. Without VPP I have to raise the price $1500 to $39,480. With 8 Security Deposits, you will need 3200 out of pocket for that, plus an additional $1000 for drive-offs. Total out of pocket 4200. Money factor is reduced to .00005 and your monthly payment is 321.37 plus tax.

If passenger and cargo room are your top priorities then I would suggest looking at the VW Atlas, Buick Enclave, and the Chevy Traverse. These 3 have by far the most cargo space behind the 3rd row.

Just bought a 2018 GX460 58k msrp (was 60k last month) with sale price of $50k, paid $499 including socal tax, with $1000 down.

I love it. it feel like driving a lifted minivan, but way more comfortable.

+1 vote for the GX in your situation as well. I personally still own a 2003 Honda Odyssey with over 200k miles on it.

As someone who owns and daily drives a GX, I have to say that, while I love the vehicle, if I had a family of 6, there’s NO chance this would be my vehicle of choice. It’s an amazing vehicle, but the third row is vastly different than that of a larger vehicle like a Suburban. Definitely need to get out there and test drive some of the bigger SUVs…that should guide you into the right vehicle.

If you get the QX60 as a roadtrip vehicle, I would suggest the Drivers Assist Package with adaptive cruise, etc.

Plus the MPG is below the others, isn’t it?

Yes, I averaged less than 10 mpg but that’s from school runs in extreme heat with the AC blasting.

It is (stock they get between 17-22). My average is in the 15s (city driving), or between 17-19 (highway)…but, I removed the Lexus suspension and put a lift kit and huge tires on…so it’s to be expected.

Any current deals on the QX60?

You’d have to be blind to miss them all over the forum.

I never really liked how BOF SUV’s drive in the freeways. They make lot of wind noise due to poor aerodynamics and also the GX is cramped in 3rd row. QX60 will be my pick here.

I am new, but I get your point…I found a bunch of threads, have to get to the details.

I replaced my 2015 Sienna minivan for the GX and drive a MB GLE daily, So far GX is the most comfortable and quietest of all. It does drive differently than most cross-overs, but not in any bad way what so ever for normal everyday driving.

How do you get that high mileage? I’m at 12, pretty much city driving.

VI have 4 kids also. Currently ages 16, 14, 10, 8.
We had a minivan (04 Toyota) and a ‘13 GMC Acadia up until I leased ‘’16 Yukon XL.

We road trip from Massachusetts to Miami yearly. Did it for years in the van and last 3 in the Yukon. Several weekends a year on 2 hr weekend trips.

Cargo wise the Yukon XL is perfect for cargo. Similar to van or even better since cargo more horizontal than vertical with 3 rows up. GMC Acadia was too small to take to Florida.

Passenger room in the van is the roomier feel. Height, width, everything.

But I wanted SUVs and I’ve liked them better.

Lease on Yukon XL ending in April. I’m a bit over the huge SUV. While I still enjoy driving I’m ready to change things up.

If we continue to lease (we owned the van til we traded for last lease)we will rent a van for long east coast trip once a year due to mileage issues.

My husband wants me to get another van. My youngest is almost 8. My oldest will have his license by January 2019. For day to day I’m now wondering, do we NEED a big SUV or a van.

Still need stuff for our weekend trips but with a family of 6 and a dog and sometimes a grandparent or friend, with a 7 passengers largest suv you can buy, we end up taking 2 cars anyway so we can go in different directions over the weekends.

I’m considering VW Atlas and ‘19 Pilot. Drove the atlas so far. Both have easier access to 3rd row than the hilander or pathfinder, so I ruled them out.

I also drove the QX 80, and it drove really smooth, but I think we will be over or comfortable range on price as we need 2 new vehicles. 1 needs to tow 5500lbs.

I’d like to check out the QX 60. Is it any roomier than the Atlas?

The QX60 has similar space to the Pathfinder. My wife has been driving hers for 4 months now and absolutely loves it. We recently switched from a full size SUV to QX60 for day to day driving because we find we rarely are all in the vehicle at the same time once my oldest reached driving age. Some of the carpool activities of the younger ones are pushed off to the older one in exchange for us funding his insurance. Similarly, we haven’t all 5 of us gone to the store together for routine grocery shopping/errands in a very long time. People have conflicting priorities so its easier to leave some at home when you run errands. If you can keep the 3rd row folded (e.g. have 4 or 5 in vehicle), the QX60 has plenty of room - 2nd row has lots of legroom and with 3rd row folded there is decent space behind 2nd row. It also leases very, very well in certain regions.

Good to know, thank you!

Drove a gx470 for 5 years. Granted it is an older generation, gx460 is still a truck based suv afaik. At 75mph, it is not as smooth as most crossove on the highway like the rx. The good thing about gx is you wont notice all the potholes in nj/ny since it is made to absorb those. I took it offroad twice and i think it is very capable like the jeeps.

The qx60 is a bit smaller than an Atlas. The one comparable in size to the atlas is the Traverse.
