My lease officially ended earlier this year but I’ve been negotiating with BMW in regards to a small chip in the windshield ever since. I got it professionally fixed with insurance before returning the car and it was extremely small, barely visible to the naked eye but still visible and at eye height on the drivers side. They didn’t replace the windshield even though I’ve read that if it’s at drivers eye height, they need to replace the entire thing instead of doing the epoxy like they did with mine.
BMW is trying to charge me for a whole new windshield at approx $700 (had the rain sensors, etc.). I’ve managed to negotiate them down 43% but should I continue to push, or just bite the bullet and be happy with the progress of the negotiations and pay it? The chip is so small that even a couple hundred bucks seems like way too much to pay and makes me feel they’re just grabbing for some last minute money as I did not renew with another BMW lease. Have you ever run into this issue?
I just turned my in with a small chip last month, but it was not in the driver’s line of sight. I asked about replacing the windshield before I had the chip repaired and, because it had a HUD, it was over $2000.
@Dinsigh
they’re def not trying to grab “last minute money”. I think that question would be better researched on bimmerfest forum. There’s a lot of talk about windshield/lease return.
@anon98469396 that’s insane…$2k for windshield because of HUD? That alone is a reason not to get HUD.
You mean I should be mad at the windshield repair company? Insurance didn’t ask, just paid for the repair (small bill) and I didn’t know until reading about it after the fact months after it was fixed. I’d trust that the windshield repair tech would know something like that.
@Dinsigh I’m curious…when you did the lease end inspection, did the inspector even see the damage or did you point it out to him and started asking questions?
Yes, the repair company then. I’m actually surprised they would recommend a repair over a replacement since they’d have made so much more with the latter.
