I’ve been eyeing the RAV4 Prime for a few years but was seeing such absurd pricing on the Dodge Hornet RT PHEV I had to check it out.
A local dealer near me marked down a handful of Hornet RTs with the Track Pack and I loved it on the test drive. I planned to lease because it’s basically an Alfa and I don’t think I want to deal with all the problems of an Alfa once it’s older with more miles, and then check out how the used market on PHEVs or maybe full EVs is doing in a few years.
But the sell price is already so low it’s making me rethink. I would be buying cash, so no financing. Which would you do?

Buy: $28,000 + tax
Year, Make, Model, and Trim: 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T Plus (track package)
Location: PNW
MSRP: $50,590
List Price: $28k after incentives and discounts
Monthly payment (pre-tax): $280
$3k down, no trade-in
Really enjoyed having one of these in the 200s effective payment but I wouldn’t want to own one for the reliability and the depreciation. And when you account for money down I’d say it’s not as great of a deal.
Interestingly, you can buy an extended warranty through Stellantis to extend the warranty to 8 years, 85,000 miles, $100 deductible for only $1,510. Mopar Maxcare also includes benefits like key replacement and rental car coverage.
