Problems registering out of state lease?

I just went to AAA and found out my plates were issued Day before Xmas…so it’s really slow.

Forgot to mention that I needed my plate # to apply for an HOV sticker, so I’m happy it finally got issued (still don’t have the plate)

how? assume buyer signed a POA with the dealership, NOT the broker, obligating the DEALER to register the car in his/her name, right? other than checking to see if client’s plates are done, what can broker do here? Likely the correct thing to do was to not take deals out of state/region, without knowing for certain that dealer will be able to register car properly.

Note how I don’t touch, for example, MA. I can literally flood the entire state full of volvos and polestars, but i know very well that my dealer would be too incompetent to register them, so i don’t service the area. Sometimes, a good broker fee is a declined broker fee.

Registering in MA is not as complex as you make out to be. Its actually quiet simple, and with use of a title company it is effortless. But I am sure @Bostoncarconcierge appreciates you not flooding our commonwealth with volvos and polestars

MA actually has a ban on @aronchi . If he tries to cross state lines they immediately incarcerate him.

But that’s not what happened here.

The broker should be on the phone with this dealer that THEY have a relationship with, and has assured the client that this is a competent and reputable dealer to do business with. The broker arranged this out of state deal, not the client. The broker knows the registering zip code and knows if this is an out of state deal or not. If the broker isn’t confident that his/her dealer can do an out of state deal, then they should not be taking clients’ money to broker out of state deals.

Clients are paying the broker fee to deliver a car that they can actually drive. Not just sit in the garage and look at.

oh completely agree. literally what i wrote above.

It happen to me before, lease a car out of state and it took them like 2 months to get it registered, had to keep calling the dealer to find out what happen
Keeps telling me it’s registered but when I checked dmv, it’s not even listed.

Don’t you have temp tags? so you can drive it

I don’t understand why the dealer would title the vehicle in CA when they knew it would be registered in WA. Is this typical in CA?

How long did it take for you to get your new in-state plates mailed to you from the out of state dealerships?

Most dealers won’t even lease out of CA, I’m more surprised this was performed in the first place.

It is not typical, no

When I leased from out of state here in CA, they titled the vehicles in the selling state and then It was transferred to CA DMV… one (Charger Hellcat) took a few months before it was finished, they dragged their feet and kept telling me it was sent-I was at local DMV week after week with no paperwork showing up even after they said they did send it…

I’d say, the dealer screwed up and sent the docs too late for the OP, they should’ve at least given a temp. tags

That sounds like how it should have gone. When I bought a used vehicle in GA, the dealer gave me a temp tag then sent me the GA title a week or so later. I was then able to register the vehicle in MD without any issues. Maybe titling a new vehicle is a different process since the vehicle has never been titled in any state.

As others have said, get a temp tag right away from the dealer, there is no reason they can’t provide you with one and that will enable you to use the car. I just leased a car out of state and the dealer gave me a 3-month temp tag as they know it is a slow process.

Since 2019, dealers are required to install temporary (90 day) paper license plates on new vehicles sold/leased in California.

You forgot, and registered

An update:
Broker - called to discuss what and why this happened. Ultimately offered to refund most of the broke fee. I’m not super happy with them overall - as I mostly just wanted a car I could drive - but some effort was made.

Dealer - basically radio silence. I’ve asked for temp plates - nothing yet. I think it’s time to write bad reviews everywhere I can on the internet and hope that causes them to at least make some attempt.

Just got my plates yesterday

You’ve tried, given them a chance to get this right. Blow em up!
