This. Driving on SC freeways, there’s no way higher speeds will help - the roads here are s***t. Everyone likes to mention the Autobahn, but the cultural level of discipline that is unique to Germany and Germany alone is a BIG part of it. Cross the German border in any direction (Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Chezch, Poland and Denmark and the Netherlands) and you’ll find nobody even sharing a border with Germany has unrestricted speed limits. I’ve spent a lot of time on those amazing roads and the other component is the engineering behind the roads themselves…we are a long ways away from that here. You can’t drive at takeoff speeds no matter how great your car is on roads that are not suited to the task, shared with drivers with the absolute minimum of “training” along with you. It’s a nice dream…but not safe.

Was reading an article in one of the auto mags that said that, even in Germany, the discipline seems to be waning in the younger generation…
