The other trick I’ve done with my legacy T-Mobile plan because I don’t want to upgrade to a more expensive plan is to port out to visible for 90 days and then come back for a free new phone and line.
I have no problem so far with my google fi using iphone. It’s using tmobile network.
They have $630 trade-in credit on legacy plans now (on iPhone) plus $100 and waived $35 activation on upgrades through Costco. Why bother with porting and switching?
My old sprint plan always seems exempt but good to know. Ended up with $800 credit near end of last year with a phone worth a fraction of that (under 200).
Yeah, Best Buy values iPhone 13 at $200 vs. $630 and my S22+ at $70

Be one of the first to experience T-Mobile Starlink.
Anyone on any carrier can sign up now to join the beta test and get satellite-powered messaging—at no extra cost—until July. Secure your spot today.

My Mint Mobile plan is $180 a year (+ tax).
Of course, this didn’t come with a “free phone.”
How’s your service? I always buy my phones but I use att go plan and it’s like $50/mo. Service isn’t great either in my area
Why not T-mo then with lots of perks? I think I asked before and you mentioned your preference for pre-paid?
@Jrouleau426 I switched from Att years ago to T-mo and will never go back.
They all have areas with shitty coverage. You can get Starlink for $10 on T-mo. I tried it when they beta tested it and it was great for texting from anywhere.
I switched my teen aged son to Mint last December. 20 GB data per month for $187 all in for 12 months. Service in Denver area is good for voice and data. Typical teen he uses almost all of the 20 GB per month. I am pleased with Mint and the service. I think his plan is now $300+tax/12 months but worth a look.
I’ve had Visible for almost two years now. Love the Verizon 5G Ultra wideband service! I get the annual plan for $395 which includes smart watch service and that comes out to $32.92/mo
My wife is on the monthly plan because I’ve been consistently getting monthly offers on my Chase cards for 25% cb on monthly plans. I have to switch between the two Chase cards for the offers but it’s been saving me $7.50/mo
It works better at our place in CA than either AT&T or Verizon. I haven’t had consistent problems with any of them anywhere else I regularly go.
There is also no noticeable slowing when I hit the data plan cap so I just pay for 5 GB a month.
EDIT: Apologies, I have four lines on my plan, and mine is 15 GB. The other three lines are 5 GB each and data slows virtually to the point of being useless over the cap, at least domestically.
I believe my speeds outside the US weren’t noticeably reduced when I went over the cap that was on the optional, temporary international plan I added (and used while in Portugal) earlier this year.
Until last January I’d only ever had a work phone / service.
I didn’t look that closely at other options. I gave Mint a try for 3 months, liked it, so I bought another year in advance.
They also have a discounted version of T-M’s 5G home internet and I’m thinking of switching to that too. It’s really inexpensive.
I did try T-Mobile when I first moved to Miami and it was horrible as well. Maybe it got better. I had their Internet as well and that was bad
T-mo includes 5 gb and no charge after that, just slow down.
Make sure you consistently get strong signal. I don’t, so no 5g internet for me.
Man that’s weird. I have been in S Florida since 2000 and had Tmobile since 2002/3 and never thought of switching to any other carrier. Not had major issues unless its hurricanes or something major which wvery carrier gets hit by. Im on a grand fathered tmobile plan where I kept on getting upgraded for same old price. Currently paying $112 tax included for 3 phone lines and 1 tablet with Internet for life, Unlimited 5G. Best is free text and data (not 5g) while travelling overseas too !
I always buy my phones. Usually from Bestbuy when they have the absolute best sales and keep my phones for atleast 3 years or 4 years when they finally start bothering me.
I had T-Mobile’s 5G for a trial period and it worked fine. I returned it though.
Long story, but the limitation that drove where I had to place it and plug it in to get the strongest signal made it an eyesore in a focal area of the room, but that issue has been eliminated.
Tried visible, google fi & currently on mint promo $15/month unlimited for a year. Both google fi n mint are using tmobile coverage. Visible coverage is not that good in my area.
What is? Lol
The data is NOT “unlimited”. It slows down after 5 gb. Technically unlimited because it’s free, but slow and practically unusable after 5 gb.
