Pet Peeves on the Road

  • Drivers in the left lane not going fast. Be a human being, either drive fast or move out of the left lane. It’s a “passing” lane, idiot!

  • People who are oblivious to right on red.

  • Making wide turns. In example, you don’t need to angle left to turn right.

  • Slowing down at overhead EZpass/Sunpass. There is a sign there that legitimately says “don’t slow down,” can you read?

  • Not understanding a school zone. Slow down when the lights are flashing and children are present, otherwise, stay at a normal speed.

  • People traveling under the speed limit. 40 means 40, not 28, what are you doing?

I’m sure there are others that I missed, but that’s my PSA.

People stop on 1 way street with no way around them to do their food delivery or dropping people off with grocery stuffs.

People who change multiple lanes in one motion which is essentially always inappropriate.

Folks who will slam on their brakes to get off at the exit they should have just missed and proceeded to the next one which in many cases would have added minimal travel time but been substantially safer.

Vast majority of times people use their brakes on highway outside of bumper to bumper means they’re a poor driver. Tesla drivers love to do this, speed up to pass someone, move over and then brake for some reason

Well a speed limit implies the upper level of acceptable, that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to go that speed as a minimum. But yes slower cars should move to the right and get out of the way of quicker ones.

Pull out kings. There are no cars behind me, there is no reason for you to pull out and forcing me to slam on my brakes when I’m doing the speed limit.

On roads of more than 1 lane, the left lane is a passing lane, period.

Sure, that’s not what my post addressed. You implied going under the speed limit is wrong or inappropriate which is basically inherently incorrect

I’m not saying go 40 in a 55 and sit in left lane, but if it’s a 1 lane road and grandma wants to drive 10 under the speed limit, there’s nothing really wrong with that.

Too many folks plan too poorly ahead/ are incapable of thinking or anticipating things which forces them to drive too fast and too unsafely.

I always try to let people pass when I’m on the left lane, however, if I’m already at 75-80 in 65 zone n passing truck on my right lane, give me time before I can safely change lane or I will just let them stay there longer.

Speed limits have been in place and unchanged since cars were much less “driveable” than they are today. Most cars can easily handle a 40 mph limit (as an example) with zero safety risks if the driver is remotely adequate. Outside of adverse conditions or people present, you should be traveling at that speed.

If you’re passing that’s fine. But if there is another driver who clearly wants to go faster, pass, then move over once you can. I don’t think this is remotely controversial.

I do this all the time… to piss off tailgaters even when I’m at 90 and there is no space on the right lane to move into. No MF! I aint going 100+ just cause u want to !

The best thing if those tailgaters speed through once I move out n got pulled over soon after . The police may have already targeted me but he got a better catch.

“Driving in the left lane not going fast.”

This concept is the entire problem, people think they are “going fast enough” to use the passing lane. There is no “fast enough” you need to get over and let others pass no matter how fast you are going.

Same with gardeners blowing stuff into the street as I pass by

If you’re in the left lane, it’s open road in the lane in front of you, and a lot of cars directly behind you, look to move over. I can give about a dozen examples like this.

They’re basically agreeing with you…. They’re saying the same thing you did, that it’s a passing lane

  1. Waiting for green to turn left from one way → one way (as long as its legal in your state).
  2. Trying to block zipper merge
