On what amount do I pay taxes if trading in a lease for a purchase?

Correct. You paid use tax on the use of the vehicle. You never owned it, so there’s no tax credit due to ownership to pass on.

Can I claim this on my federal income tax (I mean, could I have)?

I did itemize last year and will itemize next year too probably thanks to a mortgage refi.

Sure, if you opted to claim state sales tax deduction rather than state income tax deduction, but the circumstances where that ever makes sense is fairly limited (probably only makes sense in states with no income tax) and you’d need to claim sales tax on basically every purchase you’ve made.

Keep in mind we are talking about writing off $380…

I live in Florida so no income tax and since I itemized last year and will this year I did claim sales tax on the other stuff. Virtually all of my purchases are on the internet other than food so it’s easy to recall all the receipts to identify tax paid. We’re talking about 380 bucks (less actually) this year but if I had been doing it the whole time that would have been about a grand. Oh well.

Any comment on the high payoff price of my Charger? lol that doesnt make sense at all
