If they want to make sure you have a DL and its valid (there is a scanner for that) you don’t think that’s reasonable?

Also if they keep your DL thats weird. I would avoid that

That happened to me at a dealer once. I think it was a hard sell tactic, since it took them a while to return it after I told them I needed it for the test drive. Similar thing happened once regarding the keys to my old car, which I gave them so they could give me a trade in offer. I guess they figure if you can’t leave quickly, they have a better chance of selling you a car.

What if they sent him on the test drive on his own without a SA?

That is up to the individual store

No i mean it would be less weird if they did that and held onto his DL

We only got it yesterday. My wife loves Volvos so she loves it - I haven’t done anything but sit in the front seat and enjoy the legroom. This was a pretty well optioned one, but they are very nice cars.

I guess. still a bit strange

OP can easily tell them to make copy of his DL, keep his DL, test drive and get the copy back.

Yeah I mean it’s usually a copy that they need for the drive. But who knows what went on there up until he got in the car lol

I checked out the car in the showroom for a few minutes. I asked the guy behind the front desk for a test drive. He called a salesperson over, who said he needed to keep my license at the dealership during the test drive. I asked why. He said something about the dealer plates. I said I don’t have to be a retired detective to know it’s illegal to drive without a license.

@Kctham18 @Splattered I can send you more of the 2021 TH stickers… we still have plenty left due to MOQ.

Next time we won’t print the year on. :sweat_smile:

I never want to be a GM as I do not want to deal with the politics. I already have a very poor reputation for going after every single PH.D (papa had a dealership) and nepo-baby I have ever worked with.

If you can’t do my job better than me I have below 0 respect for you. If I walked into a store and the gm was:
@aronchi
@IAC
@wam22
@Jrouleau426

I would gladly work for them as they know WTF they are doing.

On the flip side if I walked into an interview and saw a certain pontiac of the late 60’s

And let me make this 100% clear, if your credentials for owning a dealership are,

checks notes

being born.

You are 100000% not the guy or gal ton run anything besides your mouth.

There are too many talented people who actually work hard that deserve the shot rather than those who’s qualifications end at the moment of their birth

From what I’ve seen a good GM that understands the business makes or breaks new sales people trying to get into the business. I’ve had kids that worked their asses off at dealers that just didn’t compete pricing wise quit. I told them to find a better dealership. That’s prob why there’s so much turnover
