Nostalgia - Phones

I was team i730 when I was in the fire dept. So cool, but terrible at SMS messaging.

Back in the day in parts of Asia if you have one of these you never lay it down flat, you go to a restaurant people always stand it straight up to let everyone know you have a ‘mobile’ phone.

My buddy’s dad had one (for work) in his Geo Metro. In 1994-95 we’d pull up to girls houses and call them to see if they wanted to come out with us. They peeked out the window, saw us in a bright blue Geo and declined our offers. When he upgraded to a teal Ford Escort it still failed to get the ladies. Cool car phone needs a cool ride.

I had a built in one in my 95 740il. But by the time I bought it in 2001 we all had cells anyway so it was just there for decoration in the arm rest. Crazy that a 5 year old 7 series was affordable in my early 20s. I think I paid around 10k haha

I carried one of these around in a backpack.

Mostly to show off (What a waste of money! lol)

Don’t forget these bad boys

Yup. I’d have to find one after my beeper went off.

First job out of college I’d have to go people’s homes for sales calls and had no cell phone. When I’d get lost and couldn’t find the house I’d have to find one of those badboys (and coins) call the house and get directions I’d write down. But then they’d usually cancel the appointment.

Damn I feel old.

I don’t know how we got anywhere without Waze. I used to deliver food in college and remember mapping out my route before taking 10 deliveries out. Still used to get lost all the time in some areas.

I’d still trade those simpler times for what we have become now. The younger generation are for the most part zombies. Rarely see kids outside playing anymore. Sad. I sound super old haha

Why does it look like Korea? Hahaha

Yeah but in 1999-2000 I didn’t have internet/computer at the restaurant haha. I used to map quest and print out from home though

I hear you man. A well worn map book was the only way. Except when a page ripped out and you ended up having to improvise.

I find myself GPSing everywhere today because of the traffic and rerouting as well as the way to get there. But amazing how we managed.

My dad was on the road for work and I was always amazed how he knew his way around almost anywhere. Like we don’t remember phone numbers, it mattered to be more aware.

Funny I still remember most of my high school friends house line phone numbers but the only cell I know is mine and my wife.
