Non Financial XC90 Discussion

Bimmerpost has me covered for my X5, but there is no chance I’m joining a Volvo forum lol. Not sure if a post has been started here given how many people recently picked up an XC90. I have a couple questions.

  1. Constant AWD. So is this car intuitive, and does the AWD turn on when it is raining heavily or snowing outside? What is this constant AWD drive selection?
  2. Not charging the battery. What are the draw backs? The battery is on 5% and I see it staying that way for the majority of this two year lease.
  3. Plug in CarPlay. Really? For now we just use all the apps on this infotainment center. What solution does everyone use who doesn’t want to plug in their phone.

I believe they’re all full time AWD. Could be wrong but im pretty sure. I dont have the plug in so i cant help you there. Side note - I asked this in another thread but I didnt get any answers. Is there any way to turn off the auto start/stop or is it a lost cause?

Main drawback is buying gas and stopping at gas stations more frequently.

Why not plug into a regular outlet in your garage if you have one?

For #3,
There are solutions available in the market. Something like this,

https://www.walmart.com/ip/5540476377?sid=9e4692f8-9560-48f1-94fb-081de0e91a13

Don’t have an experience with such products though.

Regarding this, does android work but apple requires plug in? I have android and it seems like I have android auto, but my wife is on apple and has to plug in.

Is LH really much different these days…? SMH

We rent a house for now until the housing market comes back to Earth, and the landlord said not to charge cars at the house. Honestly if PGE doesn’t separate out charging from the regular electric, I’m tempted to do it at night haha.

Oh yes, this too. I believe I could/can turn it off in my BMWs, but not sure about in the Volvo.

Perfect, that’s what I was thinking about too. If I get it I’ll post a review.

Oh I don’t have an android. That’s awesome if it does.

I’d just do it at night - especially if it’s a standard plug and not high amperage.

I assume you have all inclusive rent and that’s why they don’t want you charging a vehicle to increase their costs.

18kilowatt battery at what .16c per kW, you’ll add $3 to the electric bill per fullcharge. Now if this was say hummerEV I see the fear in landlords eyes.

I’ve has 3 of the newer XC90s since 2017 - all gas models
Have a 2022 XC60 B5 “mild hybrid” now, no plug

AWD is on all the time, no change over never noticed anything odd

Plug in Apple Car play is a non issue for me. The media will play via bluetooth but for car play you do have to plug it in. 2 ports, the one with white is for car play. I just a standard lightning connector. After a week I got used to it.

Zero latency and charges the phone. Once they replaced my bad USB-C port, no issues. People swear by those usb carplay dongles, but every one I’ve tried was trash.

I switched my proclip for a magsafe vent mount last month. Two tiny pieces of bluetac will keep the usb cable seated in the cupholder cover groove.

You’ll want to triple or quadruple that price per KwH for Californians not on an EV overnight charging plan :face_with_peeking_eye:

Unfortunately it’s more like 50 cents per where I live, if not higher in peak times. With PGE spikes, we are already going over the allotted utilities amount we pay per month hahaha. Three charges a week and I think we’d get a phone call from the land lord.

I’m in the bay area and rent a house. What kind of property do you rent that the landlord has insight to your PGE bill?

The XC90 rear wheels are driven by the electric motor only, I can’t imagine having any issues with grip here or in the snow. My 2017 Volvo v90 has been a champ at Tahoe, but is gas only.

I don’t feel inconvenienced at all between wired and wireless carplay across my 2 cars. I do like that the wired connection also charges my phone.

(are you in anesthesia? i’d like to know more if you dont mind DM’ing me)

While for a legit purpose i’m sure, as a standalone this is possibly the most ominous question asked on LHer this year.

My wife is in anesthesia and “gas” is slang for the profession. The username “gasdoc” made me curious!

…maybe not the best way to ask on a leasing forum

Lol even i was thinking, why are you insulting him haha
