NJ EV shoppers: What's your plan? (Chargeup/Tax/Fee Changes)

“Take delivery” is odd verbiage that seems directed at Tesla and the newer EV automakers. As far as Tesla it definitely has to be delivered today. A legacy dealership can do it within a couple hours.

My understanding is that the lease agreement, including the application for title certificate, must be signed on the lease origination date and possession taken prior to Oct 1. I have always taken possession on the same day that I sign all docs. As long as you take possession of the car prior to Oct 1, you should be okay. However, I would definitely check with the NJ DMV and be sure to get the appropriate documentation. I wouldn’t trust what some clerk tells me.

If you take delivery it sounds like you’re fine. Registration including temp tags is done on the spot. Permanent plates come later as always, that’s not mentioned as a requirement.
