Heh. Wanted to suggest loaded Jetta but their Dec program for MA has MF of 0.00336. MF higher than their Audi arm. VW is smoking crack.
good thing it’s a “hatchback” with under 7" of ground clearance haha
Are those available anymore? I thought only GTI and R in the US.
If mom can tolerate the ride quality (and the more heavily bolstered seats), a GTI might not be a bad idea. The higher trim specs have an adjustable suspension.
Look at Genesis products with BVM (blindspot view monitor): it puts the video feed from mirror-mounted cameras on to the screen on the gauge cluster. Both sides.
There’s another system that actively intervenes from colliding with someone in your blindspot.
Also SafeExit or whatever it’s called (my aunt was knocked down by a cyclist in Cambridge).
Mazda 3 sedan?
Mazda3 Hatch or Sedan. The top trim has a gorgeous interior. The non-turbo engine gets some decent gas mileage.
Is buying an Ioniq or EV6 an option?
I know it will get pushback for a lot of reasons but I think you’d be hard pressed to find something that’s as well equipped for the size (169") and cost (under 40k before any incentives or tax breaks, possibly way under depending on options) than a Chevy Bolt EUV Premier. Safety? It’s got all the packages available, even self driving. It’s relatively comfortable and refined on the road. It’s surprisingly quiet. It’s got leather heated and ventilated seats. It’s only missing two things: a badge and an ICE engine if you are unable or unwilling to manage charging an EV.
In case anyone has been following this and is interested, the mazda 3 sedan has a brutal MF (0.00285), but the hatchback is only 0.00058!! 99% sure we’re going to get a 2023 Mazda3 hatchback
2.5 Turbo Premium Plus AWD. Thanks all!
The hatch is also wayyy better looking than the sedan
Is your mom okay w/ the huge blind spot created by the thick C-pillars? That would potentially be a deal killer for me, personally.
If not, glad it’ll work out!
MINIs can be pretty loud. My electric MINI was the loudest EV I’ve owned due to road and wind noise.
What about a Corolla Cross or Kia Soul? The latter does not have the best gas mileage. Niro hybrid?
Hope it works out for you. In addition to the C-pillar visibility issue raised above, however, it wouldn’t surprise me if Mazda dealers treated these like VW dealers treat Golf R’s.
If she’s hyper focused on gas mileage she won’t be thrilled with the turbo. On the highway I get over 30, but in town it’s low 20s.
It’s a great car though, the red or white interior is beautiful (I have the red)
Had not thought of that…
Volvo XC40 with Costco from a broker or with a dealer ready to discount?
Buy a BMW 330e for the tax credit if you can find one with a deal? ( only see one on a lot in MA)
Agree that higher trims with most brands will be really nice. But that’s arguably harder to find on a lot.
